Open to all city residents, the building establishes a new civic hub connecting the districts of Les Pyramides and Le Bois Sauvage. Conceived as an inclusive and multifunctional facility, it brings together a diverse programme of public services beneath one roof: a branch town hall, a parenting centre, a 30-place nursery, and a cultural space incorporating a 180-seat multipurpose performance hall and dance studio.

Paysage Habité forms part of a wider urban vision centred on sustainable mobility, social diversity, and high-quality residential living. Its architectural and landscape design reinforces connections across the site while contributing to a more walkable, inclusive, and cohesive urban environment.

Carefully integrated into the site’s natural topography, the project follows the existing slope without artificially altering the terrain. Five distinct elements—the nursery, elementary school, childminders’ hub, cafeteria and sports stand—are arranged around a central garden courtyard. Sheltered from the street while remaining open to the surrounding landscape, the courtyard forms the spatial heart of the scheme.

Behind a closed gate and reached via a winding path through a long courtyard, this secluded family house reveals an unexpected oasis within the dense urban fabric of Paris. Located in the bustling 11th arrondissement, the residence is concealed from the surrounding city, opening onto a tranquil garden at the end of the site. Defined by a warm timber palette, the house offers a serene retreat from the intensity of the streets beyond, creating a quiet composition of wood, landscape and domestic life.

START-Ivry proposes a fundamental rethinking of contemporary housing culture, challenging the standardisation that has come to define much of residential development. Responding to increasingly diverse ways of living, the project places the resident at the centre of the design process, restoring the floor plan as a primary architectural tool. It also reverses the conventional development model: rather than selecting an architect after the developer has been appointed, the architect is chosen first, with developers subsequently invited to compete. In doing so, START-Ivry positions architecture as the starting point for a more flexible, resident-focused approach to housing.

Located within a discontinuous residential area, this house radically transforms a 1930s bungalow, reinterpreting the conventions of traditional housing through a series of deliberate contrasts. Old and new, closed and open, light and shadow are brought into dialogue, while a diverse sequence of spaces accommodates different patterns of use and allows the home to adapt to changing needs. The result is a contemporary reinterpretation of the existing dwelling that combines spatial flexibility with a strong architectural identity.

The Aurore Pavilion project is an architectural ensemble that includes the renovation and extension of the Tour Aurore at La Defense, along with the construction of a ten-story service building, the Pavilion, at the front of the tower. Sisto Studios, as an associate architect, is responsible for designing the Pavilion and some of the tower’s common spaces.

The office building, incorporating an agora and conference centre, extends across two courtyards between Avenue de la Grande Armée and Rue Pergolèse. The perimeter-block arrangement is broken up by generous areas of greenery, creating a more open relationship between the building and its surroundings. The existing primary structure was retained and adapted, while the office spaces were designed as use-neutral environments capable of accommodating a range of occupants and working patterns.

Dating from the 1980s, the building occupies a prominent position at the edge of a historic town centre, overlooking the River Seine. The project sought to bring the building up to date while preserving the distinctive character and sense of place afforded by its location. At 175 metres long, the renovation presented a complex architectural, urban and functional challenge, requiring a careful response to both the existing structure and its wider urban context.

The first out of a total of 390 trees was planted during a ceremony that signalled the beginning of construction on MVRDV’s La Serre, a mixed-use development located in the heart of the ZAC Léon Blum eco-district in Issy-les-Moulineaux. This 18-storey rack filled with greenery, housing units and shops is a result of collaboration between MVRDV, landscape architect Alice Tricon and developer OGIC.

An urban sculpture in one of the largest squares in eastern Paris. A new residential and commercial development with both privately owned and government-subsidised social housing – comfortable, sustainable and energy efficient – was to be built in the centre of the Place Félix Eboué.

A 1980s building set at the boundary of a historic town centre and the River Seine was to be brought up to date whilst retaining the particular cachet of its location. The renovation of this 175m-long building proved extremely demanding in terms of architecture, city planning and functionality.

Gaîté Montparnasse, the MVRDV-designed transformation of a city block just a short walk from Paris’ Tour Montparnasse, is now open. The project has rationalised the existing uses of the mixed-use block – which included a hotel, shopping centre, office space and a library – and densified the area by adding social housing and a kindergarten.

Built in collaboration with Atelier 2A+, the goal was to modernise the site of an existing school dating from the 1980s, including a Franco-German bilingual secondary school, a primary school, a lower secondary school and gymnasium, and to link them together with outdoor enhancements to strengthen the identity of the campus. This approach has resulted in the creation of an attractive place of learning for approximately 1,000 students, standing in a park amidst magnificent trees.

This building renovation project included a two-storey extension to transform the original building, which dates from the 1990s, into a state-of-the-art 41,000 sqm commercial office development fit for the modern day.

The project for the Embassy of Ghana in Paris by Serero Architectes is based on a double paradox: creating transparency on an interior garden while preserving strict confidentiality of the workspaces, and digging the entire basement of this mansion in order to clear a large parking lot under the building. Transparency and confidentiality, heritage preservation and resumption of foundations are the themes that have strongly marked the project.

The Congrégation des Sœurs Aveugles (CSA) de Saint-Paul has stood on this site of the avenue Denfert-Rochereau since 1857, on which date it was bequeathed the former property of the writer Chateaubriand (1768 – 1848). Founded in the mid-19th century by Mademoiselle Anne Bergunion, the Œuvre des Jeunes Filles Aveugles (OJFA, dedicated to young blind women) runs the social and medical activities on the site.

With its bold new plaza and semi-transparent outer skin, the building creates connections to the general public and surrounding transit while also offering citizens and passersby a generous respite in the city.

The Jardin des serres d’Auteuil built in the nineteenth century is characterized by the botanical greenhouses built by Jean Camille Formigé, architect for the garden walks and plants department of Paris (Service des Promenades et Plantations), who created a historical landmark made of steel and glass emblematic of the architecture of the time.

Architects for Notre-Dame Spire

International call for architects to design new spire, reports the BBC today.

France is to invite architects from around the world to submit their designs for a new spire to sit atop a renovated Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe told reporters they hoped for “a new spire that is adapted to the techniques and the challenges of our era”.

The spire was completely destroyed in the blaze that tore through the 850-year-old Gothic building’s roof.

The construction of the building is hybrid, composed of different materials each assuming a particular mechanical or thermal role. All facades are in massive stone supported by reinforced concrete porticos on the ground floor. This juxtaposition recalls the typical Parisian building tradition, wherein the materiality of the lower and higher levels was differentiated.

The building is set back from the street, creating an esplanade that extends the main market square. Like a figurehead, a multimedia library stretches out on the 1st floor. The glazed façade opens the building onto the square, with the reading room offering views over the town.

Grand Paris Express maintenance complex News

Sweco has been commissioned by Société du Grand Paris for the detailed design work and project management of the maintenance complex for Line 15 East of the Grand Paris Express metro network in Paris, France.

With 200 kilometres of new underground metro lines and 68 new stations, the Grand Paris Express in the French capital is the largest metro project in Europe. The objective is to support urban expansion and make travelling more efficient, reduce traffic, and improve the city´s air quality.

The governmental organization Société du Grand Paris has commissioned Sweco for the detailed design work and project management of the maintenance complex that will support the new Line 15 East metro line, a part of the Grand Paris Express. The line connects suburbs from Saint-Denis Pleyel to Champigny through a new ring line around Paris.

“The maintenance complex for Line 15 East is a significant component of the Grand Paris Express project. We are glad that Société du Grand Paris yet again chooses our expertise and commitment to improve commuting for Paris’ travellers,” said Erwin Malcorps, Managing Director of Sweco Belgium.

The complex will connect with the national railway network and it consists of facilities for depot and infrastructure maintenance. It will also serve as support for the neighbouring lines.

Line 15 East will be opened in stages from 2025 to 2030. Sweco’s work will begin immediately with a partial commission in 2025. The order value for Sweco is approximately SEK 100 million.

In 2016, Sweco was commissioned for overall project management and detailed civil design of Line 17, a new 20-kilometre metro line with five new stations, within the Grand Paris Express project.

Sweco is Europe’s leading engineering and architecture consultancy with 14,500 employees in Europe and works on projects in 70 countries annually throughout the world.
