New Portuguese Building Designs in 2026, chronological:

13 May 2026
Marvila Masterplan, Lisboa
Architecture: MVRDV and OODA
Marvila Masterplan Lisbon Portugal architecture
image : OODA
Developed by MVRDV and OODA in collaboration with LOLA Landscape Architects and Thornton Tomasetti, the masterplan establishes a new urban and landscape framework for one of the city’s largest regeneration projects currently in development. The scheme introduces 1,400 homes alongside public facilities, retail, and services, transforming a fragmented and largely abandoned site into a vibrant new urban centre.

The intervention is designed to accommodate the need for expansion while preserving the functional and volumetric continuity of the existing complex. The new building volume aligns with the current structure and runs parallel to the main street, strengthening the built frontage and creating a cohesive architectural composition across the site.
The design strategy emphasises organisational clarity and strong relationships between functions, ensuring efficient spatial integration while reinforcing the company’s institutional identity through a unified and consistent architectural language.

Edifício Scala-Mare, Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia
Architecture: Atelier d’Arquitectura Lopes da Costa
Edifício Scala-Mare Vila Nova de Gaia Portugal

This apartment building’s main challenge was navigating the limitations set by the site and the relevant regulations. These constraints strongly shaped the design strategy, ultimately leading to a building that emphasizes a horizontal layout.

Duas Casas, Guimarães
Design: felixARQS

Inside, the spaces are generous and fluid, maintaining a deliberate relationship with the exterior. Stone and timber engage in a subtle dialogue with natural light, which reveals the depth and character of the materials. Every detail is intentional: framing views, marking transitions, and anchoring objects with quiet significance.

The Garden Condominium Matosinhos, Senhora Da Hora, Porto, northern Portugal
Architect: Visioarq Arquitectos
The Garden Condominium Matosinhos Portugal
photo : Ivo Tavares Studio
The site of The Garden Condominium in Matosinhos, Portugal—distinguished by characteristics that are unique within the national context—features a private green park of approximately three hectares, which became the central axis of Visioarq’s conceptual approach. At the same time, the design needed to respond to building placement and volumetric constraints that were strongly defined by the existing subdivision.

22 April 2026
T and A Azores House, Ponta Delgada, São Pedro, Açores
Architects: Atelier d’arquitectura Lopes da Costa
T and A Azores House Açores Portugal
picture : Ivo Tavares Studio
Set in the historic heart of Ponta Delgada, this house stands as an exercise in continuity and respect for time. Built prior to 1951 and embedded within the city’s consolidated urban fabric, it arrives to us with an identity shaped by its scale, its relationship to the garden, and the layered memory accumulated through successive modes of inhabitation.

Hintze Ribeiro Multifamily Housing, Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos

The client effectively took on the role of the lead architect, clearly defining the commercial product with precise requirements aligned to market demands. They called for a rational, optimized construction approach capable of delivering quality and consistency in meeting those expectations.

14 April 2026
El Mar Restaurant, Avenida António Augusto de Aguiar, 31, 1069-413 Lisboa
Architecture: Cateto Cateto
El Mar Restaurant Lisbon Portugal
photo : Ricardo Oliveira Alves
Located on the top floor of El Corte Inglés Lisbon, El Mar is the new restaurant by chef Kiko Martins. Conceived as an immersive narrative, the interior design unfolds as a journey between the Portuguese coast and the shores of Rio de Janeiro—a visual and emotional tribute to the chef’s roots, where Portugal and Brazil converge in a rich and evocative atmosphere.

14 April 2026
Aguçadoura House II, Póvoa de Varzim, Porto, northern Portugal
Architect: Raulino Silva Arquitecto

On the lower floor, a central atrium organizes the layout, providing access to the garage—with space for two vehicles—as well as the mechanical room and a laundry area discreetly concealed by a patio. A west-facing corridor links the office, kitchen, and main living room, all of which open onto the exterior garden. The bathroom, in contrast, opens onto a small private patio, enclosed by exposed concrete walls that create a sense of intimacy and seclusion.

Beira Mar II Aveiro
Atelier de Arquitectura . Architecture Office: Paulo Martins Arquitectura & Design
Beira Mar II Aveiro Portugal real estate
image : Ivo Tavares Studio
The house emerges from a dialogue between two forces: the organic fabric of the neighbourhood and the precision of the design. Its geometries are clear, its alignments deliberate, and its language contemporary—yet never indifferent to its surroundings. It does not imitate the city; it listens to it.

2 March 2026
Casa A, Braga
Architecture: L2C Arquitetura
Rather than mastering the slope, the architectural practice chose to listen to it and work with it. The design emerged through the terrain itself, shaped by the creation of terraces and plateaus—like a sequence of steps guiding movement from chaos toward order.

FP Apartment renovation, São Vicente, Braga
Architecture: Arquitectos RT
FP Apartment Braga Portugal interior renovation
photograph : Ivo Tavares Studio
The FP Apartment renovation, in São Vicente, Braga, is driven by the need to reconfigure a deteriorated existing dwelling, characterized by obsolete materials and a spatial language misaligned with contemporary living standards. The brief called for a functional and comfortable domestic environment, in which a restrained and deliberate design approach defines the space, responding to a lifestyle largely centered around indoor living and remote work.

24 February 2026
Borges Wine Cellar, Sabrosa, Douro Valley, northern Portugal
Architects: Em Paralelo
Borges Wine Cellar Sabrosa northern Portugal
photo : Ivo Tavares Studio
Located in Sabrosa, at the core of the Douro Valley, the Borges Winery is conceived as an architectural expression of wine’s fundamental values: time, materiality, and landscape. Beyond its industrial function, the project establishes itself as a space of transformation and memory, where production and territory converge into a unified built language.

17 February 2026
House SM, Ílhavo
Architecture: Mário Alves Arquitetura
The architectural concept involves two volumes that, shaped by their programmatic requirements, adopt distinct positions and proportions. They are carefully placed on the site to optimise solar exposure while also engaging with the surrounding context and the remaining green space.

16 February 2026
Casinha Da Melroeira, Ourém
Architecture: Filipe Saraiva
The design process of this dwelling was unique, shaped by a deep familiarity with the site and the enduring presence of a ruin that formed part of the landscape of Casa da Melroeira—the architect’s own home. The symbolic weight of the ruin was long associated with the antiquity of the construction, but above all with the threshing floor that once stood in front of the house, near the public road.

27 January 2026
Minimalist White House, Ferreiros, Braga
Architecture: Arquitetura501
Organised across two levels, the upper floor assumes a distinctly private character, accommodating the home’s three bedrooms. A defining feature of this level is a continuous balcony that runs along the east–south façade. Fully glazed, it frames expansive views over Mount Sameiro, strengthening the visual connection with the surrounding landscape.

19 January 2026
Casa da Rocha Quebrada, Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Acores
Architects: SO Arquitetura & Design
The plot, the last vacant lot along a stretch of São Miguel’s southern coast, called for a solid form. Between existing constructions and the harsh Atlantic landscape, the house stands as the closure of the block and, at the same time, as a natural extension of the rock.

16 January 2026
Casa dos Sobreiros II, Póvoa de Varzim
Architecture: Urbanpolis – Construções e Empreendimentos, Lda
Two main axes organise the building and define its spatial experience. The transverse axis, which contains the entrance, is marked by a central patio that draws natural light into the heart of the house and enriches the circulation spaces. The longitudinal axis, oriented towards the southern garden, establishes a continuous visual connection with the exterior.

7 January 2026
CC House – Quinta dos Carvalhos, Leiria
Design: Inception Architects Studio
The CC House, also known as Quinta dos Carvalhos, is a project distinguished by a profound harmony between architecture and nature. Set on a two-hectare plot in the Leiria region, it was designed with a deep respect for the surrounding landscape, where the built form does not impose itself but instead adapts to its context.

5 January 2026
Sa Townhouse, Aveiro
Architecture: Atelier Tiago Do Vale, Architects
Set on a vacant plot, the Sá Townhouse resumes, in its volume, materiality, and composition, the architectural lexicon of Silva Rocha’s house, echoing the vertical and horizontal rhythms of the façade, the alignment of heights, the geometry of the roof, and the five-part organisation of the elevation.
It retains the familiar scheme of two floors, three bays, and a central attic window, as well as a rear upper patio—a configuration characteristic both of the street and of the city at large.

Portuguese Architecture News 2025

Portuguese architecture designs: New buildings images. Modern Portugal built environment updates.

Modern Portuguese Building Designs in 2025, chronological:

19 December 2025
The Capsule Neo-Bistro, Lisbon Restaurant
Architecture: Atelier Réalité
The Capsule Neo-Bistro Lisbon Portugal restaurant
photo : Ivo Tavares Studio
The project transforms a ground-floor space within an 18th-century building into a restaurant of distinct character, preserving and emphasizing its most significant feature—the arches. New elements are introduced with restraint and respect for the existing spatial configuration, minimizing intervention and ensuring the historic structure remains the protagonist.

18 December 2025
Casa Corten, Braga, North Portugal
Architecture: Sandro Ferreira arquitectura
Casa Corten Braga Portugal property
photo : Ivo Tavares Studio
Two key design challenges were the steep natural slope and solar orientation. The slope was addressed through the use of green roofs on both levels, allowing the built volumes to be read as extensions of the terrain—almost sculpted topographies—that enhance the sense of integration with the landscape.

10 December 2025
Casa do Engenho, Madalena, Vila Nova de Gaia
Architects: Silverline Architecture
During the development of this project, the clients, together with their children and grandchildren, were entering a new stage of life. Throughout their professional careers, they have been guided by care, preservation, and respect for what is passed down to future generations. They now sought to extend these same values into their living environment.

10 December 2025
Vagar Country House Mountain Shelters, Belmonte
Architects: Filipe Pina Arquitectura
These three shelters are located at strategic points in the Serra da Esperança, enhancing and preserving the region’s ecological and landscape heritage by safeguarding the existing scenery and respecting its natural values. Conceptually, formally, and constructively, they are inspired by the vernacular shepherd shelters of the region, commonly known as “Choças.”

Barra Apartment, Aveiro interior design
Architecture: Paulo Martins Arquitectura & Design
Barra Apartment Aveiro Portugal interior design
photo : Ivo Tavares Studio
The interior design was conceived to evoke serenity and functionality, where the clarity of minimalist lines meets the sensory richness of natural materials. Soft beige tones—drawn from the colour and texture of sand—envelop oak floors and walls, while pale ceilings enhance natural light and reinforce a sense of openness.

C – Cultura e Criatividade, Penafiel
Architect: Galeria Gabinete
C - Cultura e Criatividade Penafiel
photo : Ivo Tavares Studio
The Ponto C – Cultura e Criatividade project is more than a new space in the city of Penafiel. It contributes to a transformation of the urban fabric. A new entrance and improved connection to the southern area enable structured expansion, moving beyond the long-standing perception of a city “split down the middle.”

11 November 2025
Casa DR, Meia-Via, Torres Novas
Architects: NMDARQ
The project is developed on a 600 sqm urban plot located in Meia-Via, Torres Novas. Set within an expanding residential area, the site is defined by surrounding streets and vacant lots, yet framed by single-family houses of diverse architectural styles. This lack of clear references and resulting heterogeneity becomes the starting point for a proposal that asserts itself through a contemporary architectural language.

6 November 2025
Pasteis de Belem, Lisbon Bakery
Architecture: Viterbo Interior Design Ateliers
Pasteis de Belem Lisbon Portugal bakery
photo : Francisco Almeida Dias
The new interior evokes the artisanal essence of Portuguese tradition while introducing a contemporary architectural language that feels both familiar and refreshing. Light oak, handmade tiles, and textured lime plaster walls come together to create a warm, authentic, and timeless atmosphere.

6 November 2025
Casa em Mesao Frio, Mesão Frio, Guimarães, central Portugal
Design: felixARQS
At the quiet end of a street, within a cluster of buildings belonging to the same extended family, there was a ruin. A young and growing family decided to rebuild it, driven by a deep emotional connection, as it once belonged to the client’s grandparents. Right next to it stands her parents’ house.
