After the closure of the two museums dictated by the authorities last March 14 as a way to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum now announce they will reopen next Monday, June 1.
The two museums have coordinated their hours for the first month of operation and prioritized maximum accessibility of their cultural proposals by being open every day of the week and providing ample hours where the two institutions’ schedules are complementary. This way, citizens can enjoy a visit to either one of the museums between 11 am and 7 pm.
In June, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will be open Monday through Friday from 2 to 7 pm, and from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. In July and August hours will expand to cover every day from 11 am to 7 pm.
The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum will open Monday through Friday from 11 am to 2 pm, and from 4 to 7 pm in June. More hours are scheduled for July and August by also opening every day from 11 am to 7 pm.

In the present circumstances, these hours may be subject to change, which would be duly announced. Each museum will also be announcing shortly their services and protocols to guarantee a safe visit for everyone.
Until then, both museums are getting ready for their upcoming reopening.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Anniversary news
Fundación del Museo Guggenheim Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is not only one of the most famous 20th century buildings globally, but it is credited with the current phenomenon of so-called ‘iconic architecture’ (of course iconic architecture has existed long before the Bilbao Guggenheim). City councils across the globe saw the effect the building had on the city – notably increased revenue via tourism – and decided they too wanted something similar.
This was called the ‘Bilbao Effect’ and is still evident in the 21st century. Clients, especially those responsible for procuring major public buildings, typically organise a shortlist of star architects (aka celebrity architects or signature architects) with the kudos of the practice name acting like a global brand, eg Hadid, Ando, Foster have become the architectural equivalent of fashion’s Prada, Gucci bags and Armani.
