English text (scroll for Portuguese):
Dreamlike Tilandsias offers a journey in which visitors traverse a labyrinth of discoveries, where the landscape is gradually revealed through visual surprises and small kinetic events. It is a folly that dissolves architecture into the landscape and invites visitors to experience a hybridization: a garden that merges the categories of architecture and landscape design.
The project brings together two garden traditions: geometrically shaped hedges and pergolas. The living hedges are reinterpreted as vertical planes of metal screens—sometimes opaque, sometimes translucent—that incorporate the existing vegetation into the design. From this combination emerges a pergola-enclosed labyrinth, an intermediate space between the precision of the design and the unpredictable growth of the plants.
Beneath the metal structure of rusted rebar, suspended layers of different species of tillandsias—a bluish, disheveled bromeliad that thrives in shaded branches and is native to the three Americas—create layers of varying densities and transparencies. As they mature, the walls of this garden will become increasingly voluminous, unruly, and unexpected. And so it will become more and more landscape and less and less architecture.
