The Habitação CL project emerges from the dialogue between topography, material and the act of inhabiting. More than a response to a functional brief, the house seeks to interpret the site and inscribe within it a serene everyday experience, where space, light and time intertwine with natural ease.

The clients — a couple working management and economics and energy sector — revealed from the outset a refined sensitivity towards architecture as both discipline and lived experience. Their intention was clear: to conceive a house with contemporary lines, restrained yet expressive, where the relationship with the outdoors, the simplicity of gestures and the authenticity of materials would be fundamental.

Architectural Concept
The proposal is structured around the extension of an existing retaining wall on the western boundary — a dense and structural element that becomes the founding gesture of the project. This wall defines the edge of the plot, sets the building’s elevation, and generates a raised platform on which the house discreetly rests. Its implantation respects the surrounding urban morphology and allows the programme to unfold mostly on a single level at garden height, preserving the two-storey reading that characterises the neighbouring constructions.

The house turns inward, seeking a sense of retreat. The spatial organisation unfolds around a sheltered garden, framed by a northern retaining wall that stabilises the site and reinforces the idea of a patio — a private, silent, contemplative space.

Organisation and Materiality
The programme is distributed with a clear functional hierarchy. The lower floor, partially embedded into the terrain, accommodates support spaces. The upper floor houses the living areas, articulated with clarity between social and private zones, always maintaining a direct relationship with the exterior. Social areas extend into the garden, dissolving the boundaries between interior and constructed landscape.

Materiality is embraced as architectural language: exposed concrete, rough and honest, defines the structure and establishes scale; thermally modified wood introduces texture and warmth; travertine, carefully selected, punctuates the whole with sobriety, permanence and elegance.

More than a programme, this house is an exercise in synthesis — between building and dwelling, between restraint and emotion, between architecture and time

Este projeto nasce do diálogo entre topografia, matéria e modo de habitar. Mais do que responder a um programa funcional, a casa procura interpretar o lugar e inscrever nele uma vivência quotidiana serena, onde espaço, luz e tempo se entrelaçam com naturalidade.
Os clientes, um casal ligado às áreas de gestão e economia e da energia, revelaram desde o início uma sensibilidade apurada para a arquitetura enquanto disciplina e experiência cultural. A intenção era clara: conceber uma casa de linhas contemporâneas, contida mas expressiva, onde a relação com o exterior, a simplicidade dos gestos e a autenticidade dos materiais fossem estruturantes.

Conceito Arquitetónico
A proposta desenvolve-se a partir do prolongamento de um muro de gavião existente a poente — um elemento denso e estrutural — que se converte no gesto fundador do projeto. Este muro define o limite do lote, estabelece a cota de implantação e cria uma base elevada sobre a qual a casa repousa, discreta e contida. A implantação respeita a morfologia urbana e permite desenvolver o programa num único piso ao nível do jardim, preservando a leitura de dois pisos característica da envolvente edificada.

A casa volta-se para o interior do lote, procurando um certo recolhimento. A organização espacial desenha-se em torno de um jardim protegido, estruturado por um muro de suporte a norte, que estabiliza o terreno e reforça a ideia de pátio — espaço privado, silencioso e contemplativo.

Organização e Matéria
A distribuição do programa reflete uma hierarquia funcional clara. No piso inferior, parcialmente enterrado, localizam-se os espaços de apoio. No piso superior, os ambientes habitacionais articulam-se com clareza entre zonas sociais e privadas, sempre em relação direta com o exterior. As áreas sociais prolongam-se para o logradouro, dissolvendo os limites entre interior e paisagem construída.

A materialidade é assumida como linguagem arquitetónica: o betão aparente, rugoso e honesto, marca a estrutura e impõe a escala; a madeira termo-modificada introduz textura e calor; o travertino pontua o conjunto com sobriedade, permanência e nobreza.

Mais do que uma resposta programática, esta casa é um exercício de síntese — entre o construir e o habitar, entre a contenção e a emoção, entre a arquitetura e o tempo.
