Belgian buff brick wraps the primary elevations, establishing a strong sense of continuity and permanence. Window openings are carefully proportioned and articulated with limestone sills, while patterned brickwork between the main openings adds depth and casts subtle shadow across the façades.

Architecture: Cléo Katcho Design Architectural Inc.

Housed in a 1990s building, the restaurant originally featured a fragmented layout, with the dining room, bar, and mezzanines existing without clear cohesion. Early site visits revealed a major constraint: a granite core containing an emergency staircase bisected the space, disrupting its continuity.

Architects: Nathalie Thibodeau architecte

Located on an expansive site along the Maskinongé River in the Outaouais region, the project called for a house that would integrate seamlessly into the surrounding forest. Rather than positioning the dwelling directly along the river’s edge, the design seeks to establish a more intimate dialogue with the woodland setting. It forms part of a broader vision: a network of small, purposeful spaces distributed across the site, each offering a distinct relationship to the landscape.

Place des Montrealaises, Laval, Québec
Architects: Projet Paysage

photo : Vincent Brillant
A library, cultural spaces, and municipal services come together to form a civic complex set within a 13-acre site, threaded with pathways, rest areas, and an active mobility network that connects neighbouring districts. Located at the intersection of Saint-François and Duvernay-Est, the project responds to two defining challenges: addressing a long-standing lack of local amenities while restoring the ecological capacity of a vulnerable territory.

At its core, the new Dining and Operations Centre reinterprets the spatial logic of a traditional college. The program brings together classrooms, dormitory accommodation, a refectory, commons and sitting rooms, bathing facilities, and a cloistered quadrangle—supporting both academic inquiry and a rich culture of communal living.

Solis Movement, Toronto, Ontario
Architects: Simone Ferkul Projects

photo : Riley Snelling
Designed by boutique studio Simone Ferkul Projects, the studio is conceived as an environment that explores a subtle tension between softness and strength. Through a carefully curated palette of materials, controlled lighting, and sculptural forms, the space gently guides the body through the experience of movement, allowing architecture to quietly support physical practice.

Switch bloc, Calgary, Alberta
Architecture: Modern Office of Design + Architecture
The site for Switch/bloc is a typical inner-city lot with an active streetscape. However, unlike most inner-city lots, the site does not have a rear lane, which typically helps to add a ‘buffer zone’ between the new development and the adjacent community. The knee-jerk response for this site, and many others like it, would be a ubiquitous 4-storey, double-loaded corridor, multi-residential housing project.
