Modernique Home is one of the more original of the fifty-two homes in this enclave by the pioneering modern architect, this special property has been cherished by the same family for many years and is being offered for the first time in decades. On a large corner lot on the most desirable street in the community, surrounded by mature landscaping, this home provides a calm and serene sanctuary from big city life.

As hillside design specialists, the Whipple Russell team sometimes finds it necessary to move mountains, in order to create a spacious yet intimate modern home. To accomplish these goals for Hutton House the architects first cut into the rear hillside to maximize backyard living space and to site the house further from the street in the front.

The bold L.A. home sits on a focal point on a Bel-Air hilltop. Raising the design plateau one story afforded the owner views of the Pacific Ocean, therefore a split-level / offset design was introduced to allow gradual ascent to the top of the roof with little effort. A central “void” is created with bridging stairs to allow sunlight and visual connection to the lowest levels of the building.

This project focuses on the transformation of a WWII-era home, combining a modest addition with a modern redesign that revitalizes the structure with a contemporary aesthetic. Tasked with creating a more functional and integrated living space, the remodel aimed to elevate the home’s character while blending it naturally with the surrounding landscape and enhancing both privacy and openness.

2ray is a four bedroom, 4,000-square-foot residence which was generated from two existing walls with inverse trajectories. The vertex is the starting point to a perpetual line that runs through and generates the building’s form. The attempt was to drive the user into a dynamic pre-entry space where thinness is used as an asset to create an experiential change.

Widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali was named “Sportsman of the Century” by Sports Illustrated in 1999. Born Cassius Clay in Louisville, Kentucky, he started boxing at the age of twelve. At eighteen, he took home gold in the 1960 Olympics before going pro.

A young couple acquired a small cabin perched in the trees of Mount Washington, above Los Angeles. The site for what is now the Canyon House presented a series of challenges due to the cabin being sited precariously above a dramatic topography, as well as soil instability and rigorous foundation requirements.
