Global architecture firm Goettsch Partners (GP) announces the completion of Guangxi China Resources Tower, a new 403-meter-tall (1,322-foot-tall) skyscraper in Nanning, China, that is also the city’s tallest building. Developed by CR Land, the 86-story landmark tower totals 272,260 square meters, composed of the 336-key Shangri-La Nanning hotel, 172,740 square meters of office space and 5,930 square meters of retail.

MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, has completed Quzhou Stadium, the centerpiece of a complex spanning almost 700,000 sqm that will be known as Quzhou Sports Park in Zhejiang Province. Quzhou is a historic city 400 kilometers southwest of Shanghai and surrounded by dense forests to the east and west, its sinuous exterior profile reflects the mountain ridge within distant view of the site while its landscape evokes those of planets imagined by visionary science fiction authors.

Fire at China Telecom Building in Changsha:

An enormous fire has engulfed a skyscraper in Changsha, state media reports.

Footage posted on social media showed massive flames racing up the 42-storey China Telecom Building‘s side as office workers rushed to evacuate the tower.

Thick clouds of black smoke billowed out of the structure, which is a regional office for China Telecom.

Authorities said the flames have since been extinguished and that no casualties had yet been reported.

The 218m (715ft) tall structure was completed in the year 2000 and located near a major ring road in this Chinese city of around 10 million population.

MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, has nearly completed construction of the “Cloud Center” in Aranya Community, Qinhuangdao, a port city 160 miles east of Beijing, China, with a population of over three million. This new Chinese building includes a grand hall, a gallery and a small theatre within a footprint of just over 2,500 square meters.

This Chinese commercial building project utilises a simple elegant form. It is derived from the northern light, which creates the twisting shape of the 180m tall tower to form expressive double-curved surfaces on the building façades. Vertical lines accentuate the minimalistic form and through the effect of reflection and refraction from the glass create a design statement that celebrates light as the major tool to define architecture.

The library on the east side is the largest, with a total construction area of 22,000 square meters. The total book collection is about 1.1 million volumes, with 2,100 reading seats. The open-shelf book storage in the library is integrated with the reading area in order to provide the functions of “collection, search, borrowing and reading”.

The owner of Qumei Wanwu commissioned Wang Zhongli, the lead designer of CATANIAN, to design for its exhibition space, in the hope of driving traffic with the introduction of the Italian brand GIORIO CASA. Only one month into the operation, the surging traffic as well as the comment that “the space is surprisingly located in Shenghui” assured the owner of having made a wise decision on the choice of the designer.

The building also has a unique semi-outdoor space at the top, referred to as the “phenomena space”, designed for people to observe the magnificent natural phenomena throughout the year.
