The design solution resulted in little change to the overall footprint, consisting of the removal of a late rear extension ‘meals room’ and replacing it with ‘the claw’. Aptly named by the owners the new family-room embraced the sloping land reaching up to the rear raised garden.

The Government Services Offices development is one of the key projects of the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative, a major urban renewal project being led by Places Victoria and the Victorian State Government. Developed and built by Grocon, the challenge of this landmark development was to create a high standard of urban design and quality workplace in this outer-suburban region, and to assist in the rebirth of the precinct as a major mixed-use activity centre.

BVN Principal, Ninotschka Titchkosky will explain to the jury how the new housing at Monash responds to the need for higher end facilities for students.

Two online films provide insight into how Australian architects are taking on the world.
Australia’s leading architecture firms share their passion, energy and fresh approach in two engaging four-minute online films which will be launched at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Singapore on October 4, 2012.
With a spotlight on the southern hemisphere, the WAF shortlisted architects reveal how climatic and cultural similarities make them leaders in sustainable design in the thriving Asia Pacific marketplace. These films were made in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Architects.

The building volumes are clearly articulated on the site. The theatres are stacked vertically and located centrally, freeing up space on the site for a large courtyard: an urban oasis and outdoor event space.

This project has evolved the building type, the small weekender, by answering a simple question – how does one go into a forest and use the forms of the ecology to build a house?
The project is a small cabin in Victoria’s Central Highlands.

Melbourne will be the world’s first Grand Slam tennis venue to have three feature courts with operable roofs. Minister for Major Projects Denis Napthine and Minister for Sport Hugh Delahunty today unveiled the new design for Melbourne Park’s Western Precinct, which includes a redeveloped Margaret Court Arena with an operable roof and increased capacity.

The front building has been designed to function like a propylaeum, with filtered views of a ‘secret garden’ through a mesh of arched gateways. Facades are tiered back to ensure privacy and maximum daylight penetration into the courtyard.

This project is a home in Hawthorn designed to accommodate at the various stages of its life, a family, a single person, and a single person with large visiting family. The design concept of this home was to take a perfect shape, the copper sphere, and to remove parts.
