80 Collins Street Building
A brilliant new work called Still Light graces the new 80 Collins St development that towers above Melbourne’s skyline. Featuring 1,136 metres of light and hours of visual content, the work radiates gently to encourage a slower rhythm in the CBD, evoking a sense that the architecture is moving.

Visitors to the newly redeveloped Adelaide Oval – one of Australia’s most iconic sports venues – will now be greeted by a dramatic, cantilevered curved form over the main entrance, created from over 4,000 individual panels of Nordic Bronze from Aurubis.

Conceptual Framework CASA31_4 Room House re-interprets the role of memory, tradition and social and cultural value in a rich spatial experience that is simultaneous familiar yet unfamiliar. Our architecture preserves and reinterprets the past, history is layered but never erased, fragments of the past continually remind us that we are only another layer in the rich and unfolding history of this place.

The site is located in a heritage conservation area that is fiercely protected by Leichhardt council. Being in one of the few streets in the Inner West Sydney that are still largely original in their streetscape, any alteration or addition was bound to be somewhere between controversial and impossible.

The Abedian School of Architecture is located on the campus designed in the 1980s by Arata Isozaki. It forms part of the Faculty of Architecture and Sustainable Design. The design competition was won in 2011 the building was completed in 2013.

The SA Health and Medical Research Institute building already has been given nicknames: ‘pinecone’ or ‘blue tongue’ – the building is a bio-research facility. The $200m building is federally funded and features an unusual tessellated facade.

The six shortlisted designs of the Flinders Street Station Design Competition have been revealed for the first time with Premier Denis Napthine today launching the People’s Choice component of the competition. “From today everyone can inspect the designs and cast their vote. I encourage all Victorians to participate and I think they will be excited by what they see,” Dr Napthine said.

The building is relatively modest in scale, with a tripartite arrangement which reflects historic CBD development heights, stepping both in plan and section in response to important street views to neighbouring heritage buildings. Each datum of the building reflects the changing contextual qualities and eras at each level – ranging from monumental sandstone planes at entry level to minimalist anodized sunshades to the upper western façade.

The New South Wales Government announced today that Destination Sydney, consisting of Lend Lease, HOSTPLUS, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless, is the preferred consortium for Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (SICEEP) redevelopment. OMA is the master plan designer within the consortium, and is also the conceptual architect of the ICC Hotels within the master plan.

Lend Lease, one of Australia’s largest contractors, appointed by UTS to build this ambitious Frank Gehry building nicknamed ‘Gehry’s Tree house’. The 12-storey $180 m building will contain the UTS Business School.

This new building, called the Swanston Academic Building, is an idea about building a vertical campus and drawing the diversity of the city deeply in to the design conception. As student space is not available like a green campus, the project proposes a vertical ‘stack’ of informal ‘open’ student spaces, each connected to a central circulation system of escalators and stairs.
