The contemporary interpretation of leaves are crafted as a metallic shingle, which cover a three storey elevation and rooftop pavilion. The PPC coated folded aluminium leaves – 4,080 in total – subtly vary in tones of bronze to mimic organic growth patterns. The concept was designed over a three year period of research and development working closely with Swiss manufacturer Tuchschmid.

Church Walk Houses, North London
Design: David Mikhail Architects

The architects-cum-developers brought their particular skills in the housing sector to bear on this block of four dwellings and demonstrated how such schemes should be delivered – beautifully. They were so pleased with the results that they decided to live in one of them. The external treatment is broken down by the functions, with brick to main living areas, Siberian larch cladding to main bedrooms and expanded mesh to the balconies. The interiors are dynamic with split levels and top lit spaces.

25 Tanners Hill, Lewisham, London SE8
Design: Dow Jones Architects
photo : David Grandorge
Home and Gallery in Lewisham: This beautifully executed project, in which a humble bicycle workshop has been transformed, as if by alchemy, to create a home and gallery with a richly layered collection of spaces. The architecture is made as much by what is stripped away and revealed as by the elements that are added.

Oscar Wilde House, Tite Street, Chelsea, South west London
Design: London Atelier
photo from architect
This Grade II listed flat has gone through a few mutations before its recent refurbishment by London Atelier. Once the residence of Oscar Wilde, the house had been unimaginatively divided into flats with most of its interesting and original features either hidden or removed.

Elm Court House, North London
Design: AR Design Studio
photo : Martin Gardner
Hidden from view, behind the ordinary looking façade of a modestly sized semi-detached house in North London, sits an elegant piece of modern contemporary architecture. The recently retired owners sought to adapt the existing small and cramped property into their perfect home. Despite their North London site, they were eager to work again with the south coast based architects, having experienced an enjoyable and smooth design process on an earlier holiday home.

Chelsea Town House
Moxon Architects have completed a grade 2 listed house conversion in Chelsea. The driver for this scheme has been to treat the existing structure as a geometric guide for the setting out of new material and spatial interventions.

Stitched House
Design: Jonathan Tuckey Design

Stitched House London
This house is an example of how you can create something very timeless by using a material like brick which ages well and has reliable thermal properties. The cantilevered brick canopy is very unusual and also creates a sheltered outside space for the London house.

Shoffice – Shed Office, St John’s Wood, West London
Design: Platform 5 Architects
photo : Alan Williams Photography
Shoffice
‘Shoffice’ (shed + office) is a garden pavilion containing a small office alongside garden storage space located to the rear of a 1950’s terraced house in St John’s Wood. The brief required the shoffice to be conceived of as a sculptural object that flowed into the garden space.

Kingston Upon Thames Property

North London Residential Extension

North London Residential Extension
Discreet from street level behind an 1860 North London house sits a spectacular new extension designed by Stirling Prize winning Alison Brook Architects. An angular projection of dynamic shapes and planes, the structure is distinguished not only by its creative vision, but also by the use of Corian to form a striking rain screen façade.

Kings Grove, London SE15
Design: Duggan Morris Architects

Kings Grove House
RIBA Awards 2012 Winner
This is a taut, exemplary response to the development of a landlocked site: an intelligent house built by an architect couple for themselves. The site, reached by a narrow lane, is contained by back gardens.

Dalling Road, West London
Design: Hayhurst and Co. in collaboration with Lucy Carmichael

Dalling Road
RIBA Awards 2012 Winner
This is an extension to a Victorian terraced house, a mere 10 square metres larger than the previous footprint of a dilapidated lean-to, from a brief which required a new family kitchen, dining and play space. The simplicity of the brief was however accompanied by a desire to use the opportunities afforded by the angled and tapering geometry of the site to playfully challenge the existing house’s Victorian order.

King’s Mews, Bloomsbury, central London
Design: A+D Studio
photograph : Jefferson Smith
King’s Mews
A+D Studio was commissioned to redevelop this site on the corner of Northington Street and King’s Mews in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area of London. The original mews building at 7 Northington Street and 14 to 17 King’s Mews was a small two storey garage and flat which had fallen into disrepair and was allegedly once occupied by Diana Dors.

Belsize Park Property
Andy Martin Architects are delighted to present their latest residential project, an ambitious redevelopment of an existing mechanics garage. Mews 02 is a single residence set in Belsize Park; the owners, a musician and his designer wife, wanted this existing mechanics garage to be converted to a 4 level family home, with the emphasis on the entertaining areas and with the ability to create private compartments over for sleeping.

Chiswick House, West London
Design: Sam Tisdall architect

Chiswick House
This recently completed house extension is situated in a leafy conservation area backing on to Chiswick House Gardens in London. Despite its sensitive location, the project moved quickly through planning with the result that a spectacular new living space has been created at the back of an ordinary 1920’s suburban villa, to the delight of the owners who have lived there for 30 years.
