Forest House Winchester
Design: Adam Knibb Architects

This residential project reimagines the house for contemporary family life, placing emphasis on natural light, spatial flow, and a stronger connection between the home and its woodland surroundings.
A series of carefully considered interventions extend and reorganise the ground floor, forming a brighter, more open kitchen and family space at the heart of the home, designed to better support everyday living and frame views of the landscape beyond.

The architecture balances calm, grounded forms with moments of articulation. A cantilevered balcony emerges as a defining element, lending a sense of lightness while extending the living spaces outward to engage with the surrounding landscape. Materiality, massing, and orientation are carefully calibrated to ensure the building sits comfortably within its setting—contemporary in expression, yet firmly anchored in its coastal context.

South Downs House, East Sussex
Design: MortonScarr Architects

The home is clad in flint, a material long associated with the local vernacular and well suited to the exposed setting. Detailed in a contemporary manner, the flintwork is complemented by larch cladding and a standing seam metal roof. Carefully articulated cut-outs within the roof form a terrace for the first-floor master bedroom, while full-height glazing to each gable end frames expansive views across the surrounding countryside.

Cakeham House, West Wittering, West Sussex
Design: Adam Knibb Architects
The original cottage had been undermined by a series of incoherent, outdated extensions that lacked character. The brief called for a comfortable, sustainable family home—one that balances spacious social areas with private retreats, maximises natural light, and takes full advantage of its unique setting, offering views across farmland to the sea.

The Cottages, Charlbury, West Oxfordshire, Southern England
Architect: NOTO Architects

photo : French + Tye
The Cottages is a thoughtful, contemporary extension to a historic stone cottage within the Charlbury Conservation Area, West Oxfordshire. The project transforms a compact, dark interior into a light-filled, flexible family home, while carefully preserving the character and scale of the original building.

Austen House, Winchester, Hampshire, South of England
Design: Adam Knibb Architects

photo : Martin Gardner
Adam Knibb Architects identified an underutilised opportunity in the narrow access way running alongside the property, only occasionally required for vehicular use. By building above this existing void, they introduced a new elevated volume, adding valuable internal space without increasing the overall footprint of the site.

The Old Sty, Tatworth, Somerset, southwest England
Architects: London Atelier

photo : Ralf Eikelberg
Externally, the approach is deliberately restrained. The rubble-stone walls, simple gabled roof, and deep-set openings were repaired and consolidated with minimal intervention, preserving the agricultural character of the building. New oak-framed doors and discreet frameless windows are introduced with clarity and precision, carefully set within the existing fabric to maintain a quiet, coherent elevation.

Beckett House, Crawley, West Sussex
Design: Adam Knibb Architects

photo : Martin Gardner
Tight planning constraints required an inventive approach to achieving the additional space needed. With the original cottage located in the countryside, the design team worked within a specific planning allowance that permits small dwellings under 120sqm to be extended by up to 25%, carefully shaping the proposal to remain compliant while maximising the potential of the site.

Poplar Road House, Surrey, Southern England
Design: Adam Knibb Architects

photo : Martin Gardner
Taking cues from the surrounding architecture, vegetation, and wider landscape, the design establishes an extended base articulated in vertical timber cladding, with an offset first-floor front extension finished in white render. The contemporary form guides circulation from the new entrance around the home, culminating in a rear element defined by a sedum roof that softens the building’s edge and reinforces its connection to the garden.

Hastings House, Hastings, East Sussex, Southern England
Design: Hugh Strange Architects

photo : Rory Gaylor
The detached house is barely altered and beautifully refurbished, retaining fine mouldings, stained glass, fretted barge boards and decorative hung clay tiles. At ground-floor level, however, the openings in its rear wall – which previously accessed a gloomy full-width lean-to extension – are adjusted.

House by the River, Wiltshire, southwest England
Design: Artel31
Designed and built by award-winning architects Artel31, ‘House by the River’ responds to its unique urban setting adjacent to the river and surrounding parkland. The Old Byre Property, Isle of Wight, southern England
Design: Gianni Botsford Architects

photo : Schnepp Renou
This conversion of two understated farm buildings on the Isle of Wight creates a new home while also providing residency and working spaces for visiting artists. The project retains the original footprint and structure of the barns, enhancing them with a new external layer of insulation and corrugated cement board. The resulting form is direct and utilitarian, clearly reflecting its dual function as both domestic space and place of creative production.
