National Athletics Center, southern Budapest

National Athletics Center
The main elements of the design are the new Athletics Stadium and Park realized on the premises of the former Vituki industrial estate in Ferencváros; the newly planned pedestrian-and bicycle cable bridge that will connect the northern tip of Csepel Island; and the new Athletics Training Center accessible through this new bridge. Altogether, these three project elements will provide an urban vision for the development of the area.

New Museum of Ethnography
The multiple award-winnig new museum building – which is part of Europe’s largest urban-cultural development called Liget Budapest Project – designed by FERENCZ, Marcel; Napur Architect – has dynamic yet simple lines simultaneously harmonised with the park environment and communicating with the surrounding urban area. The City Park (Városliget) is a familiar venue for the Museum of Ethnography: its collection debuted here at the 1896 Millennium Exhibition.

International architecture practice Grimshaw, has been awarded first place in the competition for the renewal of Budapest Nyugati Railway Station. The winning design, in collaboration with Nautes Architects, WSP, Vogt and Turner & Townsend, was selected, as part of an anonymous competition, from a shortlist of 12 internationally recognised teams.

Zugló City Centre Budapest
The mixed-use Zugló City Centre in Budapest’s 14th district integrates new civic spaces surrounded by nature together with homes, shops and offices on a site of nearly seven hectares between Bosnyák Square and Rákos Creek. Developed in phases by Bayer Construct Group in Hungary, the project will begin construction early next year and is scheduled for completion in 2029.

House of Hungarian Music
The House of Hungarian Music, designed by Japanese starchitect Sou Fujimoto, is being built in the Hungarian capital as part of the Liget Budapest Project, Europe’s largest urban cultural development programme. The building cannot but draw the eye with its organically undulating roof structure distinguished by its extensive glass walls and its canopy perforated with holes.

Museum of Ethnography in Budapest – List of Competing Architects
Museum of Ethnography Design Competition
One of them is Zaha Hadid Architects, which designs iconic buildings worldwide, as well as BIG Architects, Bernard Tschumi Architects, Dominique Perrault Architecture, Coop Himmelb(l)au and the Rem Koolhaas’ studio OMA. Városliget Zrt. announced the design competition for the new building of the Museum of Ethnography in December 2015; the so-called pre-qualification stage of the procedure, during which the circle of applicants is finalised, has been closed.

Another world class public building will be constructed in the Hungarian capital within the framework of the Liget Budapest Project. Based on the submitted competitive projects and the negotiations held in the past few months with architecture studios, the New National Gallery will be built in the Vársoliget (City Park) according to the design made by the internationally renowned Japanese SANAA (Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates) architects studio.

Competition winners for the masterplan of Liget Budapest were announced. As part of the project, the Hungarian Government plans to erect five new museum buildings in the forthcoming years in Budapest’s oldest public park, Városliget, also designated for complete reconstruction.
