Shenzhen Stock Exchange : OMA

The 46-storey (254m) Shenzhen Stock Exchange is a Financial Center with civic meaning. Located in a new public square at the meeting point of the north-south axis between Mount Lianhua and Binhe Boulevard, and the east-west axis of Shennan Road, Shenzhen’s main artery, it engages the city not as an isolated object, but as a building to be reacted to at multiple scales and levels. At times appearing massive and at others intimate and personal, SZSE constantly generates new relationships within the urban context, hopefully as an impetus to new forms of architecture and urbanism.
Sheth Tower Iris Bay, Dubai : Atkins
Aside from the distinctive architectural design of this unusually shaped commercial building, Iris Bay was an early opportunity for Atkins to explore the challenges of sustainable design in a hot climate and incorporates both passive and active environmental features. The firm was commissioned as lead consultants for architecture, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design, and project management for the entire development.
Upper Strand : Reiach and Hall Architects
Stark white brick modelling of form, deep punched apertures and defined frame make this housing unusual for Scotland. The gentle rhythm of punched windows on the flank elevation to the east have been seen before – very fashionable – but the sculpted stepped back tower is unusual and thought-provoking. The fenestration on the west flank is composed from elegant vertical strips. Towards the top of the tower the form modifies and steps back in an elegant way.
Scottish architecture competition : Entries
The judging panel met 15 Dec therefore the schemes had to remain anonymous. The panel selected 2 from the 5 and the chosen architects returned to the village to present their schemes in person at a public meeting.
Hilton London Tower Bridge : Jestico + Whiles Architects
This 250 room hotel is the heart of More London, a new 13-acre business community on the South Bank of the Thames which provides extensive office space and is supported by health club, cafes and restaurants within a landscaped setting. The Hilton London Tower Bridge hotel, aimed at both business travelers and tourists, constitutes a unique building type within the masterplan.
