Location concept/initial situation: Felldorf is a small village, part of the municipality of Starzach in the district of Tübingen. It is rural in character and has little more than 750 inhabitants. A strip of land along the exit from the town, which is lined with apple trees, is designated by the municipality as a smaller building land area. The last plot is owned by the builder’s family and can now be built on to a small extent.

The Multi-Family House is located in Aichschiess, a small village just 30 minutes outside of Stuttgart an old farmhouse is the origin of the development of a multi-generational home right in the town centre.

Houses that were built in the 20ies usually have quiet a reasonable floor plan and a solid substance – walls made out of brickwork and ceilings supported by wood beam constructions. But nowadays those spaces don’t fit modern family’s needs anymore – there is a higher claim for comfort and regarding the layout of living spaces in general.

From the street, the north façade, which is composed of cubes and wall slabs, appears largely solid, and gives the impression of a single, detached villa.

Two anthracite-coloured building volumes glittering in the sunlight can be seen from the road. The gate in between them opens to a private world. From up here, one looks down to the residence, a building composed of light-coloured cubes and dark rectangular slabs.

The almost triangular shape of this plot with its long street front and an impressive plane tree worthy of protection at the rear necessitated an elongated building running parallel to the road.

The new house is on a plot of land near Stuttgart, on a hillside with a generous view of the valley. The owners wanted a new home that would bring this view to life even inside of the building. The house is in a residential area with conventional developments, most of which date from the 1960s.

The Haus am Weinberg is located in a setting that is at one time rural, yet suburban. The location of the villa affords pastoral views of the stepped terraces of an ancient hillside vineyard on one side and cityscape vistas on the other.
