AR Design Studio’s Paragraph 55 House receives planning permission
AR Design Studio are proud to announce that their Paragraph 55 House, Ravenstone, has received planning permission after a majority vote from the planning committee last night.
The contemporary 3-bed dwelling that sits in the Buckinghamshire countryside, was placed under the paragraph 55 planning clause due to its ‘green belt’ site. A collaborative design between AR Design Studio, Eckersley O’Callaghan Engineers and Landscape Architects Ibbotson Studios transforms an overgrown paddock into a striking landscaped lake-side modern home for a couple with a passion for collecting and restoring classic English cars.
The simple rectilinear form, inspired by a local agricultural vernacular, accommodates a striking open plan living space which cantilevers 5.5m above the water and gardens below. The innovative and ground breaking design uses the large panoramic windows to brace the cantilevered structure which has been designed in conjunction with structural engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan, renowned for their structural glass work with Apple and the longstanding history with Steve Jobs.

The house forms accommodation for family members, guests and artists. Internally the spaces carefully frame the landscape and provide a rich sequence of experiences, including a small rivulet of water that that cuts a grotto through a corner of the main house. Magic.
