Volksbuehne Berlin Installation
The closing of the great door not only provides an absurd image for the presence of absence, the installation itself counteracts the architectural pathos of an historical type of building, its very being happily disproportionate to what is presented within.
Five faithfully reproduced pillars have been inserted into the facade, completing as it were the set-like architecture, and thus putting the Volksbühne itself on stage for the length of the holiday closure.

The immediate vicinity, and everything that takes place there, is thrown back on itself, the theatre forecourt becoming a square where in fact everything happens. What the passerby makes of it is up to him; the installation gives him a free hand.

The entrance is free, however.
