Brookfield Place
The complex project has united four separate sites including the former Menzies Hotel, Thakral House, and the retained Shell House and Beneficial House, assembling them into one reinvigorated block that rises out of the reconfigured transit hall of Wynyard Station. The contemporary civic design reimagines the ground plane, making public space the focus, with a strong understanding of how people move around the city.

Canary Wharf skyscraper by Make Architects
225 Marsh Wall
Make has withdrawn its planning application for a 56-storey skyscraper in London’s Docklands
20th of June 2016 – The planning application from Cubitt Property Holding for 225 Marsh Wall was pulled just hours before it was set to go in front of Tower Hamlets council’s planning committee last week.
The tower building had been recommended for refusal by the council’s own planning officers on the grounds it would be overdevelopment of the site.
A report from Tower Hamlets’ director of development and renewal said the tower “seeks to maximise not optimise the development potential of the site”.
It also failed to achieve “an appropriate transition” from Canary Wharf’s tower cluster and would unacceptably impact on the skyline, said the report.
The proposed tower would have housed 414 residential units, 663sq m of office space tailored to suit small businesses, 448sqm of flexible office or community space and 307sq m of flexible retail and community space.

LML is a consortium of landowners, who have come together under a legal framework in order to bring the site forward for redevelopment. The site currently comprises 2 and 3 storey office buildings.
Make architects, DP9 planning consultants and a wider professional team were instructed to deliver an initial scheme that has been the subject of discussion with London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
The site was offered to the market through London based agent Savills, and a preferred purchaser selected.
Completion took place in October 2013.

Make is 10
6 Feb 2014 – Information from make architects UK:
2014 is a year of celebration
For 10 years ago, was laid Make’s foundation.
Rewind the clock to 2004,
When Ken took the plunge and went looking for more.
Setting up the practice, he wanted to build
A new kind of studio, ambitious and skilled.
So Make came about and took off right away
And a number of projects entered the fray:
City of London Info Centre and 55 Baker Street
Were two of the first, and both quite a feat.
The successes continued, for so hard we tried
With Gateway, The Cube and Grosvenor Waterside.
Then along came the Olympics and the fab Copper Box,
A superlative venue folks called #boxthatrocks.
At Oxford and Notts our work carried on – universities
With so many buildings each, they deserve their own ditties!
Add private residential and Broadgate 5 to the mix
And our projects onsite and completed reach 56.
Wanting to expand, to China we cast our ambitious gaze
Where we’ve two thriving studios, whatever the haze.
With two projects finished and much more to go:
Apartment block, hotel, offices – all strings to our bow.
Through talent, guts and loads of hard work,
No hierarchy nonsense and no one that shirks,
Sound ethics, good people and a fabulous vibe
A better practice would be hard to describe.
So to all Make clients, suppliers, consultants and peers,
A big fat THANK YOU – for without your support we wouldn’t be here!!

Accelerate into University : Architecture for all, not just a few
29 May, London
Open City Events – 28 May 2012
Accelerate into University is the first programme of its kind to support 15 to 17 year olds from non-traditional backgrounds who are keen to go into architecture.
The programme by Open-City has come as a direct response to the concern within higher education that people from less-advantaged backgrounds are unable to pursue a career in architecture and the profession due to the rise in fees. This challenge is exacerbated by a huge deficiency in access to high-quality advice in schools about what architecture is like as a profession. Accelerate is a pioneering first step towards addressing this need.
