The Lantern House sits on the perfect balance between being nestled into the hillside and rising above it. Designed as two levels for a local entrepreneur and family, the very linear “L” shape is able to spread the main spaces of the house out more evenly across the site in the direction of the topography.

Ridge Oak Residence, Austin

Originally designed in 1950 by prominent Austin architect Howard R. Barr, FAIA, Ridge Oak Residence a mid-century modern gem is located in the heart of Austin’s Highland Park neighborhood. When Clayton Korte clients bought it from Barr’s son in 2016, they hired the firm to design a complete renovation and addition.

The High House is configured as a boomerang to accentuate the natural curvature of the land. It perches at the brow of the hill in order to maximize the site’s 180 degree view. The street side of the home includes high walls to provide privacy while allowing plenty of light.

Hill Country Wine Cave, Blanco River, Texas Hill Country

Hill Country Wine Cave is located at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, this private wine cave serves as a destination along a secluded bend of the Blanco River. Excavated into the north face of a solid limestone hillside, this shotcrete lined tube is protected on the east and west by tall oak and elm trees, allowing it to nearly disappear within the native landscape.

Herd Immunity Screen Austin

Forsite Studio has completed an installation based on the concept of herd immunity. Conceived as a filigreed mask, the screen is part of a larger curtain wall system for a new wellness center in Austin, TX. The geometry of the Herd Immunity Screen is generated by an algorithm with inputs based on epidemiologists’ estimates for a COVID-19 herd immunity threshold.

The 4,100 SF one-story ‘Hill Country contemporary’ residence sits on a 1.2-acre site on the west bank of Austin, TX. The lot had an existing house – built in the 1950’s as a vacation lake cabin – typical for the area. The original hexagon shaped cabin was renovated with an addition added in the 1970s.

Composed as a series of layers, the facade of the stunning Live Oak Residence unfolds behind a screen of mature live oak trees. The main living space transitions from grounded in the site to completely transparent, floating over the lower level in a breathtaking cantilever, while the back of the house opens up to the hillside, providing panoramic hill-country views.

Known to country music fans as the King of Country, George Strait is selling his bespoke adobe mansion in San Antonio on a 12.2-acre hilltop. Designed by sculptor-turned-architect, Bill Tull, the adobe mansion took two years to build. George’s home is priced at $7.5 million.

The Bellville Project is a multi-structure composition on a sprawling 700-acre site located in the Texas Hill Country. From the onset, the two families who own the property were clear about what they wanted the project to be: a communal ranch, featuring private residences and a shared clubhouse, allowing for both private retreat and regular entertaining.

This new property located in West Austin, is the result of a subtractive process. The original volume, a perfect cube of 38′×38′×38′, was deconstructed with subtle level changes, carefully placed windows, and outdoor terraces shaded by cantilevered louvers, which open up the space as one ascends towards the sky.

Austin360 Amphitheater completed: located southwest of downtown Austin, the Circuit of the Americas will be the host to the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix, MotoGP, V8 Supercar, and American Le Mans races starting with the inaugural race on November 16-18, 2012. Built around a 3.4 mile racetrack, the facility has the capacity for 120,000 visitors and will become a significant attraction for the city of Austin.
