Second Harvest is one of the region’s largest food banks, carrying out a mission to end hunger by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. The organization provides food and support to 700+ community partners and programs across 23 parishes, and their staff and volunteers distribute the equivalent of more than 32 million meals to 210,000+ people a year.

HOUSEofCARDS, Arnaudville
This design/build project in Arnaudville was conceived as a folly on a rural piece of land and serves as an artist’s retreat for a non-profit community organization. The concept is that of a 16’x16’ self-sufficient Thoreau’s Cabin on a Cajun Walden Pond. Concrete was chosen as the primary material for its longevity and durability.

The new Burden Welcome Center will serve visitors to the adjacent Botanic Gardens, Rural Life Museum, Louisiana State University (LSU) AgCenter and various other community and cultural destinations. Intended to provide visitors with an overview of the many destinations dispersed throughout the 440-acre property in the heart of Louisiana’s capital city, the 28,625-square-foot facility will also detail the history of the Burden family and the Burden property, one of the largest donations ever made to LSU and the surrounding community.

Historically, buildings in southern Louisiana were forced to employ every manner of passive systems to mediate their physical environment to the greatest extent possible. In the modern era, most buildings in this wet, hot, humid, and often volatile climate seek to resist the extreme conditions by creating a presumed impenetrable barrier.

Pecan House is a home on a pastoral country site outside of Baton Rouge required a major renovation and addition. The owners wished for the relocated 1930’s Acadian bungalow’s small rooms to open up for contemporary open-plan living, new back porches, a large main bedroom suite, and views from inside the home to the property’s beautiful pastoral landscape.
