Buildings in Tokyo
We’ve selected what we feel are the key examples of Tokyo Buildings. We aim to include buildings that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.
We cover completed buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and design competitions across Tokyo. The focus is on contemporary Japanese buildings but information on key traditional buildings is also welcome.

Hue plus studio office
Unlike an ordinary photo studio that is a closed box to be used merely as a shooting equipment, Hue+ is an office space, a cafe, a library and a kitchen that the users have control over, making them feel like staying longer for its own sake and enjoy the experience. This Tokyo building embraces its users by enabling them to change it as they feel fit. The relaxed atmosphere offers further possibilities of open and vibrant communications to stir up the users’ creative minds and fresh ideas about ‘eating’.

House in Inokashira
Situated on a very narrow plot, bound by a small street and bamboo tree hill, performing as both a retaining wall and dwelling, this single family Tokyo house sits into the hill. Aiming as homage to the trees that once stood there, cedar louvers and concrete embossed with wood grain hint the textures and materials that sit in the forest behind the home. When it gets dark, lights from interior illuminate its outside vertical latticework creating ambiguities around the context.

House TTN
This Tokyo residence – for an “urban” extended family – was designed to accommodate three families – the parents and the families of their two daughters. They had decided to live together again with the birth of grandchildren. Thus, the main objective for House TTN is to provide the necessary functions for an “urban” extended family, accommodating the needs of modern nuclear families who have grown accustomed to independent life but have chosen to enjoy the benefits of being part of a large family.
