North Salem Residence, Upstate New York Renovation
Archi-Tectonics renovated the existing 4070 sqft North Salem Residence and created new sculptural fences throughout the property. Interior renovation included re-designing the bathrooms and the kitchen / dining area, creating airy relaxed spaces featuring natural materials and playful accents.

The Klaynberg Residence is located on the North Shore of Long Island, adjacent to the Sands Point Village Golf Course, which is situated on land that was part of the original Gold Coast Guggenheim Estate. The estate’s history is evidenced by the remaining mature trees, which march through the landscape.

Located at the edge of a heavily wooded 3-acre plot in East Hampton, New York, this new home is a complete redesign and renovation of an existing 1970’s era residence and serves as a retreat for the Manhattan based clients; a graphic designer, and an art consultant and curator. The redesign takes its cues from the client’s desire to create a living gallery space that would house their existing collection of artworks.

This Landmarked Greenpoint brownstone had beautiful parlor floor and stair details, but the finishes and fixtures dated back to the 1960s and the house was subdivided into many small rooms. The clients, a family with two children, wanted to create a triplex over a garden rental that maximized open space and light, with touches of colorful details and patterns.

This 20-foot-wide wood frame townhouse, located at the end of a row along a narrow side yard, had existing front and rear extensions. The building volume was selectively manipulated – in some cases through addition, in others through subtraction – to improve room sizes, sequences and adjacencies. Generously sized skylights, window walls and glazed corners were employed to make the most of available natural light.

They also wanted to create good spaces to live and work and to display their extensive collection of art and books. The design brief also called for special accommodations for their two cats.

Inside the home, the architects designed the private spaces to be secluded, and the public spaces to be grand and open. For privacy and to allow natural light inside, they employed slats of rich teak over some of the windows for a screened effect, playing with the spacing of the louvers, allowing the outside to be seen from inside, but not vice versa.
