The Gehry Residence is Frank Gehry’s own house. It was originally an extension, designed by Gehry around an existing house. Now the architect is world-famous and has numerous major buildings in most western countries, but this is where it all began.
The house is experimental. It was designed in the fleetingly-very-popular Deconstructivist style though it is also slightly adhoc and can’t properly be pigeonholed into any architectural genre. It uses assembled industrial elements such as chain link fences and corrugated steel.
The Gehry Residence is located in Santa Monica, California.
In 1977, Frank and Berta Gehry bought a pink 1920s bungalow.
In 1978 he partially enveloped the house with a new exterior. In 1991 Gehry once more grew the house to help accommodate his growing family.
