EDF Pylon Design
The team of Ian Ritchie Architects, RFR and Kathryn Gustafson were invited in 1995 by Electricité de France to compete against 7 other teams in an international competition to design a new series of very high voltage pylons – 225kV and 400kV. Other competitors included Starck, Giugiaro, Wilmotte and Perrault.
The EDF awarded joint first prize to this team. Their 400kV ‘f’ pylon design has since been developed and full size prototypes were successfully tested in 1998.
The first group of the new series has been installed as part of the Tavel-Tricastin Line either side of the Rhône in Le Gard, south of France. Further pylons are likely to be installed during the first decades of the new millennium.

The project was initially submitted for a 2008 competition held by the Icelandic power transmission company, Landsnet, in conjunction with the Association of Icelandic Architects. The submitted design received honorable mention and at the award ceremony, Landsnet asked Choi+Shine Architects to submit the design of the female pylon-figure, which they had shown as a sketch on the competition board.

EDF Campus Saclay
The completion of a building in the planning project of Saclay Paris is a unique opportunity to be one of the markers of the future center of excellence established on the plateau. The uniqueness of the site, and it’s present and future characteristics, make it an interesting emerging area.
