Building Developments in Australia, chronological:
Kew House, Melbourne, Victoria – 19 Aug 2013
Design: Nic Owen Architects

The design solution resulted in little change to the overall footprint, consisting of the removal of a late rear extension ‘meals room’ and replacing it with ‘the claw’. Aptly named by the owners the new family-room embraced the sloping land reaching up to the rear raised garden. The claw-roof was conceived to provide solar protection to the north while allowing the winter sun indoors. The claw is surrounded on 3 sides with full height glazing, extending the living environment into the rear landscaped yard.

Dandenong GSO – 5 Oct 2012
The Government Services Offices development is one of the key projects of the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative, a major urban renewal project being led by Places Victoria and the Victorian State Government. Developed and built by Grocon, the challenge of this landmark development was to create a high standard of urban design and quality workplace in this outer-suburban region, and to assist in the rebirth of the precinct as a major mixed-use activity centre.

Florida Beach House
This is a modern day holiday house only one hour from the capital of Western Australia and surrounded by the sprawling Perth suburbia. We are interested in the past and rapidly disappearing holiday homes that once dominated the nearby landscape, houses that embodied the weekender experience designed with restraint, economy and robustness. This house captures these dying qualities while screening the occupants from the emerging suburban houses and protecting them from the strong winds and storms. A deck is created on each of the cardinal points allowing the occupants to live externally any time of the year.

Deakin University Building
Deakin University’s new Burwood Highway Frontage Building is set to be a world-class educational facility that will create a major impression at the entrance of the University. The new building will define a new urban precinct from within the campus and aligns with the University’s aspirations to be a contemporary, friendly and welcoming environment.

The Denton
The front building has been designed to function like a propylaeum, with filtered views of a ‘secret garden’ through a mesh of arched gateways. Facades are tiered back to ensure privacy and maximum daylight penetration into the courtyard.

The Dome House
This project is a home in Hawthorn designed to accommodate at the various stages of its life, a family, a single person, and a single person with large visiting family. The design concept of this home was to take a perfect shape, the copper sphere, and to remove parts.
