Tiff’s place, Tasmania, Australia

Tiff approached us in 2022, after recently purchasing 13 Broadwaters Parade. The original home had been designed by well-known local Tasmanian architect SWT Blythe, and had only had 2 owners since the 1970’s.

Tiff was the 3rd owner, and the house was in it’s original, and very well-preserved condition.
There were so many exquisite details in the existing home, and although the building was tired, and in need of some TLC, it had so much exciting potential, and we relished the opportunity to be involved in the reinvention of this 70’s gem.

Less is more was the approach taken on this project, right from the outset.

Although there was no heritage overlay or listing applicable to this building, the significance and value of retaining existing built fabric was evident immediately.

The 1970’s architecturally designed home boasted a significant extent of hand-crafted timber veneer wall lings, and carefully considered cabinetry.

We salvaged as much of the existing building fabric as possible, taking a light touch approach, resealing and preserving existing elements, and then creating new timber elements to match the original timber.
It was a slow and deliberate process, and required significant commitment from client, architect, builder and contractors.

We needed the building to perform with the functionality and luxury appropriate to current day living in the home, but without losing the intentionality and quality of the original build. It was a tricky balance, with a great deal of restraint required by all parties.
