Museo Soumaya, Mexico : FREE | Fernando Romero EnterprisE

The shell of the building in Mexico City is constructed with 28 steel curved columns of different diameters, each with its own geometry and shape, offering the visitor a soft non-linear circulation all through the building. Located at each floor level, seven ring beams provide a system that braces the structure and guarantees its stability.
Metropol Parasol, Seville, Spain : J. MAYER H. Architects – completion news

The “Metropol Parasol” scheme with its impressive timber structures offers an archaeological museum, a farmers market, an elevated plaza, multiple bars and restaurants underneath and inside the parasols, as well as a panorama terrace on the very top of the parasols. Realized as one of the largest and most innovative bonded timber-constructions with a polyurethane coating.
Jeongok Prehistory Museum, Korea : X-TU

From the motorway, the museum looks like a strange and immaterial volume, softly glimmering, stretched between two cliffs. Around it the landscape has been restored, cleared of its undesirable buildings, and given back its original identity as a natural riverside site.
Wadi Rum Lodges, Jordan : Oppenheim Architecture + Design

Oppenheim’s winning proposal set out to reinterpret the way society deals with surrounding nature by taking full advantage of the mystical valley where desert sand meets desert stone. The project merges silently with its wondrous setting, exploiting and enhancing the natural beauty of the desert to establish accommodations that are uniquely elemental and luxurious.
Cathedral Fold, Strasbourg, France : Axis Mundi Design

A series of unfolded (ogival) concrete arches were designed to create majestic volumes of light for the interior spaces. Invisible Cathedral The design of the front façade consists of a bas-relief of a digitized abstraction of a Gothic cathedral.
Nanjing Museum of Art & Architecture, China : Steven Holl Architects

The 30,000sf museum is sited at the gateway to the Chinese International Practical Exhibition of Architecture (CIPEA), which brings together the work of 24 Chinese and international designers. Designed by Steven Holl with Li Hu, the museum explores the shifting viewpoints, layers of space, and expanses of mist and water, which characterize the deep alternating spatial mysteries of the composition of Chinese painting.

The triangular zone of intervention on the site releases itself naturally from the existing constraints. The result is a concrete piece of cake, a simple 22m high extrusion of that original triangular shape.
Vantone Center, Tianjin, China : AS+GG

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture is pleased to announce that it is designing Vantone Center Tianjin, a new corporate headquarters that will be one of the most sustainable buildings of its kind, in Tianjin, China. At 185 meters (607 feet), Vantone Center will also be one of the taller structures in downtown Tianjin’s thriving central business district.
