The Ashmolean Egypt Galleries, are located to the west of the existing Cockerell building, and house an impressive collection of Egyptian artefacts. The refurbishment of the galleries is phase 2 of the Ashmolean masterplan. RMA began work soon after phase 1 completed, to develop a scheme for the refurbishment and re-display and were appointed as both architect and exhibition designers.

“Founded in 1973, [RMA] has 31 members of staff based in London. It spans both new build and renovation, with a special interest in the cultural and education sectors. Examples of the design standards by [this architecture office] include a RIBA award for the Dulwich Picture Gallery in 2001, which cost £8m, in addition to a RIBA award-winning private house in Hampstead; the ARCO Building at Keble College, Oxford; and The Times Newspaper headquarters building in London’s Docklands.”
Rick is an American who since the early 1970s has lived and worked in London.
