Gensler’s design for San Francisco International Airport’s renovated Terminal 2 (SFO T2) sets a new benchmark for contemporary air travel in a terminal highlighting the Bay Area’s distinct culture through its design, art and epicurean delights. Registered with the United States Green Building Council, the terminal aims to become the first LEED Gold certified terminal in the United States.

Fentress Architects, designer of the Terminal 2 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina, has announced the opening of Terminal 2’s final phase, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011 at RDU. Terminal 2 is the world’s first major airport with a lenticular wood truss structure supporting the roof, which creates a warm, inviting passenger experience and a sense of place unlike any other airport in the world.

Design and construction of a new $77 million airside terminal. The new 16-gate, 315,000 s.f. facility will be served by a new baggage conveyor system and a four car passenger shuttle transfer system. Southwest Airlines will use the majority of gates (12) at the new airside.

Hickenlooper and DIA Manager of Aviation, Kim Day, joined the architect on stage as he shared his concept for the redevelopment, which will not only enhance the airport’s connectivity and functionality, but is also expected to create more than 6,600 jobs.

J.D. Power and Associates has given the HOK-designed Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal its highest marks in passenger satisfaction in a survey of 64 major airports. The $1.2 billion terminal earned 777 points – the most of any airport surveyed – in airport accessibility, baggage claim, check-in and baggage check-in process, terminal facilities, ease of security checks, and food and retail services.
