Tucked into an industrial backstreet of Berkeley Vale on the Australian NSW Central Coast, Goons Brewing is a brewery, neighbourhood pub, cool-stuff bodega and a mate’s very well-put-together garage rolled into one. The brief was never about creating a polished craft beer destination. Goons already had an irreverent identity and a loyal local following.

Our job was to give that personality a home.

At a time when the hospitality landscape is increasingly dominated by large groups, Goons feels refreshingly made for its community, by the people who are part of it.

The owners have poured themselves into the place — hand-painting the space, finding friends who help with the trades, sourcing furniture and working alongside us throughout the design.

Their fingerprints are all over it, and that’s exactly how it should be.
Taking cues from early ’90s Australian graphic design, the interior pulls together places and spaces the Goons team love: the familiarity of the classic Australian pub, the intimate booth of a New York diner and the colour and energy of Latino street food culture.

There’s a looseness to the space that feels very Goons. And like any good owner-run hospitality venue, it’s still evolving. Things get added, moved around and lived in. Each week brings another layer, with the people who use the space leaving their own mark along the way.

Ultimately, the brewery is the backdrop for what Goons does best: getting people together. Locals, mates, musicians, artists, beer drinkers, wine drinkers and whoever else happens to wander in.
