This 605 ft tall tower complete with rotating restaurant has been refurbished.

It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair to designs by architects John Graham Jr. (top part) and Victor Steinbrueck( base).

Titled “The Century Project”, the $100 m project included simplifcation of the architecture and an introduction of much more glazing.

The Observation Deck experience has been augmented with floor-to-ceiling glass to provide expansive360-degree views of the Puget Sound.

The 500-foot level has been redesigned to include a revolving glass floor revealing downward views of the tower’s structure.

When Tommy Bahama first moved to the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in 2005, it had fewer than 200 employees occupying roughly 78,000-square-feet of space. With a headcount now twice that, designing and building a commercial interior that not only accommodated this tremendous progress, but also stayed true to their core values as a company was at the forefront of the project team’s vision.

The homeowners of a lower Queen Anne home had a uniquely sloped lot featuring various levels providing enough space for a 4,350 square foot house and a large back yard. They approached the Seattle based design-build team at Collaborative Companies to create a layout that took advantage of the incredible city views.

New NTS building – LEED Gold–certified – by architects Mahlum — Mark Cork, principal in charge; Anne Schopf, design principal; Pierce McVey, project designer; Duncan Davidson, project manager; Luke Pulliam, project architect.
Consultants include Parametrix, LPD Engineering (civil); Integrated Design Engineers, CDM Smith (structural, hazmat); Greenbusch Group (m/p,acoustics); Triunity Engineering & Management (electrical); HBB Landscape Architecture (landscape); Gordon Environmental (solid waste)
General contractor was Lydig Construction and the Client was Seattle Public Utilities.
The facility consists of two low-slung concrete buildings either side of a weigh-scale yard. The main structure comprises a 57,000-sqft tipping and transfer floor, an administrative block, and a lower level for compacting and collection.

The Spheres – Amazon HQ addition
The latest addition to Amazon’s $4 billion Seattle headquarters opened this week. The Spheres, three conjoined glass bubbles designed by NBBJ, provide the company’s employees with a ‘cloud forest’. Five levels of unorthodox workspaces—from a tree house meeting room, complete with bouncy bridge, to deck chair recliners that imply their own pool—climb through a lush green habitat of more than 40,000 plants, including two densely verdant living walls, a forty-foot-high Australian tree fern, and an 18-ton ficus.
