Customer Experience at the Forefront of Interior Design at Qantas’ London Lounge
6th February 2018 – Qantas’ latest international lounge, has opened at Heathrow Terminal 3. Designed collaboratively by Woods Bagot’s London and Sydney studios, the Qantas London Lounge showcases global interior design and world-class service.
The design concept is an evolution of Qantas’ flagship lounges around the world, reflecting distinct elements of London. The city’s rich tapestry of buildings, history and culture provided inspiration for the finishes, while giving customers a sense of place. A neutral palette of quality, earthly materials including warm timbers, brass and leather were inspired by the historic architecture of the city, while the River Thames is referenced in the selection of deep green leather and rich blue hues in the upholstery.
Fluid curves and soft lines evidenced in the rounded walls and joinery reference aviation and the form of an aircraft, while a sculptural stair and double-height, terrazzo-clad void joins the two floors to create a social hub and the feel of connectivity.
Curating an intimate scale retreat was key to fulfilling the brief. Split over two floors, the customer journey begins on level one which provides an inviting reception area that flows into the feature food & beverage offering. The second level provides an area for customers to work, rest and socialise. The feature of level two is the cocktail bar, inviting guests to relax beneath a brass chandelier which floats above a round marble counter.
Located at London Heathrow Terminal 3, the Qantas London Lounge is open daily to Qantas customers travelling in First and Business and Qantas Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers and their guests. It is also open to eligible oneworld, Emerald and Sapphire customers; Emirates Skywards Platinum and Gold customers; and Qantas Club members and their guests.

The last terminal at the airport was Terminal 5 (T5) by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) with YRM.
Foster + Partners were the architects for Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s island airport – a new four-runway airport in the Thames Estuary to replace Heathrow, but the Commission rejected the idea.
