Tile of Spain, the voice of the Spanish tile industry, is hosting a lunchtime seminar in Clerkenwell on the applications of advanced ceramic solutions for flooring on October 17th. This free event will take place in the SCIN gallery (Morelands, 27 Old Street, London, EC1V 9H) and will feature a presentation by Javier Mira of the Spanish Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC) and the Ceramic Industry Research Association (AICE) followed by a Q&A session.
The talk will offer an overview of the various manufacturing methods and types of ceramics, then will look closely at the latest advances in special finishes and installation solutions, such as: frost and UV resistance, anti-slip and dirt repelling properties, new formats, raised access flooring and urban paving.
The event will be moderated by materials expert and founder of the SCIN Gallery, Annabelle Filer, and will include a curated product showcase demonstrating the Spanish tile industry’s expertise and innovation. The presentation and Q&A will take place from 1pm to 2pm, but those wishing to enjoy a Spanish flavoured lunch should arrive at 12:30pm. Wine is kindly provided by Wines of Spain. There will also be the opportunity for informal networking after the seminar.

About Javier Mira
Head of Design and Architecture of the Spanish Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC) and the Ceramic Industry Research Association (AICE). Mira was a founding member of the Association for the Promotion of Ceramic Design, ALICER, where he was deputy-director from 1993 to 2005. A technical architect, author and lecturer, Mira is an established expert in the field of ceramics. He is the co-inventor of 9 ceramic tile products and innovative installation systems and the coordinator of 17 Research & Development projects exploring the role of ceramics in design, architectural applications and decorating processes.
