All Saints’ Cathedral, Cairo, was consecrated in 1988. The property was designed by Egyptian architects Dr. Awad Kamel and Selim Kamel.

The building is the home of the Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa.

The cathedral is located in Zamalek, a residential area on an island in the middle of the River Nile. The church is constructed in concrete.

It was designed in the shape of a cross at ground level and a crown at the top.

The building’s crown reminds me of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Liverpool, built much earlier in 1967.

Iconic Tower Building

Possibly to be the “tallest building” in Africa, at 390 metres tall, way higher than the current title holder.

The skyscraper is located in Egypt’s new administrative capital 45 km east of Cairo.

Initial work on the ‘Iconic Tower’ is due to start in March 2019.

Construction will be by Egyptian construction companies in collaboration with China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

The Carlton Centre in Johannesburg is the tallest building in Africa – since 1973 – at 223 metres high.

However, there is competition for the title of tallest building in Africa:

Also, the BMCE Bank of Africa Tower in Rabat, Morocco, is also competing for Africa’s tallest building. At 250 meters high, with 55 floors, and covering an area of 86,000 sqm.

Kenya is building The Pinnacle Towers, 213m high over 70 floors. The complex is by Dubai-based developers. The development includes a 45-floor Hilton Hotel, 20 floors of offices, 200 residences, 3-floor basement parking, gaming zone, 3-floor luxury mall, helipad and Africa’s highest viewing deck.

Also in Egypt, The Nile Tower designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid is due to also be 70 storeys high.
