The design of the new Swiss Embassy in Yaoundé pays tribute to its renewed presence in the Cameroon and a respect for the uniqueness of the site. The resulting proposal is an elegant ensemble that encapsulates the identity and self-image of the Swiss people and their values.

The concept design has been produced by the British Council’s own in-house architects. Emma Vergette, Head of Architecture at the British Council who says ‘We want the building to project an image of contemporary UK, but have used the city of Addis Ababa as the source of reference for its architectural language.”
Kampala Tower, Uganda

Kampala Tower
Comprising 60 storeys, it will be the tallest tower in Africa and will house over 100,000 sq m of office and retail space for up to 12,500 people. A public plaza at the entry is designed to create a new centre for events, set against the backdrop of the tower and surrounding hills.

Designed for Old Mutual Investment Group Property Investments (OMIGPI), and located on the old Malgas/Porters/Shell site, opposite the V&A Waterfront entrance, the tower will rise to approximately 148 metres in height.

Dutch Embassy Africa, Maputo
The building has been pushed to the edge of an orthogonal, gently sloping site so as to leave room for a walled garden. Since this is the southern hemisphere, the building opens up to the cooler south side while its north face is much more closed.

The brief from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was to use the chancery to express South Africa’s commitment to and importance in Africa, to recognize the significance of Ethiopia in Africa’s cultural, political and spiritual history, and to reinforce the links that bind the two countries.
