KEPPIE DESIGN BUILDS GLOBAL PORTFOLIO WITH EGYPT’S FIRST PPP HEALTHCARE WIN
17 April 2012 – Glasgow based architectural practice Keppie Design has won the design contract for Egypt’s first ever PPP healthcare project.
The Keppie team, headed by its Health and Wellbeing Director, Graham McCorkindale, has emerged victorious from an international competition, contested over 18-months, to design and build a series of facilities for the Smouha and Mowassat Hospitals in Egypt’s second largest city, Alexandria.

Due to be completed in 2014, the project features a new 200-bed Gynecology and Obstetrics University Hospital. The project will also see the construction of a Pediatric and Emergency Facility and blood bank at the existing Smouha Hospital complex and a new 223-bed facility near the Mowassat Hospital for the provision of highly specialised care services.
Keppie is part of a consortium including Egyptian firms Detac Construction, The Arab Academy and Bareeq Capital; UK based G4s and Siemens of Germany.

David Ross, Keppie’s design director, commented “We’re delighted to have been selected for such a prestigious project. We were able to demonstrate our deep understanding of the PPP procurement model and are working closely with the client to make sure this first PPP Healthcare project proves successful for the Egyptian Health Ministry. More often these days we find ourselves being sought after, all over the world, as advisors on PPP infrastructure and investment as well as being one of the leading designers of healthcare and educational facilities.”
Omar Elkeshen of Arab Academy added: “Keppie’s vast experience in PPP and healthcare, allied to their excellent design proposals, made them the best choice from a very competitive, multinational design competition. We look forward to working with them to deliver Egypt’s first healthcare PPP project.”
