Galileo Reference Centre in Noordwijk, The Netherlands

Galileo Reference Centre Building
The Galileo Reference Centre, located in Noordwijk Space Business Park, is a 1500 m2 free standing building, according to this Dutch architecture practice. The centre will receive data from the Galileo satellite system. The development of a non-military Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is founded by the partnership between the European Union (EU) and the European Space Agency ESA.

7 Nov 2013 – Rob Hootsmans became partner at Architekten Cie. in Amsterdam on 1 November. This will strengthen the position of Architekten Cie. and continue its tradition as an agency in which strong individuals work with experienced teams. Rob Hootsmans (1962) will be the fourth partner within the Cie. alongside Pi de Bruijn, Pero Puljiz and Branimir Medic. Architekten Cie. has developed an extremely diverse assignment portfolio of both national and international contracts. A current project is Weena Point: 50,000m2 of office development next to Rotterdam Central, the Noorderparkbad in Amsterdam, Vlasikha: a 107 hA satellite city near Moscow, and de Hoofden: a CPO project for Houthavens in Amsterdam. Rob Hootsmans will continue to work within Cie. on projects such as the Zwolle courthouse, the extension of Rietveld Academie and PPS courthouse Breda.
In the future, Architekten Cie. will focus on cooperation in various forms and in innovative ways. Intensive cooperation is being sought with national and international market parties concerning PPS and DBFMO assignments.
The www.cie.nl website has been revamped and includes information on our latest projects including the new Zwolle courthouse (above) construction and Centar Bundek, Zagreb Croatia.

About Rob Hootsmans
Over the past 15 years, Rob Hootsmans (above) has realised a large number of projects varying from restoration/renovation and interior design to large-scale complex construction assignments. Rob Hootsmans won the Prix de Rome for architecture in 1995. He worked as coordinating architect at the Government Building Agency in The Hague from 1997 to 2006. During this time he was responsible for numerous assignments including the head office of the National Ombudsman, Rijkswaterstaat headquarters in The Hague, a women’s prison in Nieuwersluis and the Public Prosecution Service in Lelystad.
He started his own agency in Amsterdam in 2006. In recent years Hootsmans architecture agency has worked on various projects including the extension of Rietveld Academie, the head office of Eyeworks, the renovation and expansion of Zwolle courts and various large national and international DBFMO projects such as the PPS courthouse in Breda.
Rob Hootsmans combines work as an architect with numerous other activities, including teaching posts at various schools for architecture in the Netherlands. From 2003 to 2006 he was a member of the Amsterdam Building Inspectorate and supervisor of the Westerlijk Havengebied. From 2007 to 2011 he was a member of the Architecture Committee from the Fonds Beeldende Kunst Vormgeving en Bouwkunst (Visual Arts, Design and Architecture Fund). He has been a member of the Architect Register’s Exam Committee since 2012. He was Prix de Rome jury member in 2001, BNA Kubus jury member in 2007 and Archiprix jury member in 2011.

The urban plan for the “Quiet Downtown” Belgorod puts together the best ingredients of the living atmospheres of world class cities to create a new mix unique to Belgorod: Green alleyways and brick buildings of New York and Amsterdam, monumental ensembles with intimate courtyards and green gardens of Paris and Vienna, and premium class housing with key-controlled gardens of London and Zurich.

A new highway on the north side of Odintsovo and a new railway station for a high speed rail line, which eventually will link an innovation center ´Skolkovo´ with the proposed international financial centre in Rublevo-Archangelskoe, will additionally strengthened Odintsovo as a desirable location for living, working and education. The surroundings of Odintsovo are characterized by a rich and beautiful network of water bodies and natural green penetrating the city. Both green and water are used and enjoyed by the people of Odintsovo.

Public Service Hall in Georgia
de Architekten Cie. and Lada Hršak from HL architecture won this architecture competition held by The Ministry of Justice of Georgia and supports the countrywide reform for renewal of public services. Eight PSH buildings are (almost) realised and eight new ones are about to come.

Kaohsiung Urban Port Station Competition win
De Architekten Cie. has won the open international Kaohsiung Port Station Urban Design competition in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The 15.42 hectare site, is the derelict Port Station Railyards of the old port of Kaohsiung is to be transformed into a vibrant, new urban district centered around a linear park which highlights the cultural and historical heritage of the site.

Tianjin Building
Tianjin has north China’s leading port. The population of the area surrounding this port complex, the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA), is expected to increase by at least 200,000 people over the coming decade. The international competition for the expansion plan for this area has been won by de Architekten Cie. in association with DHV. This is the third success achieved by Cie. Asia, which has been based in Shanghai since 2006 and has already won design competitions for the Tianjin Railway Station and the Culture Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
