Asturias Building design by ecosistema urbano arquitectos:
Contemporary revision of models of vernacular architecture (granary and terrace, use of wood in structure and closing). Combination and reinterpretation of formal and constructive typologies of traditional architecture of northern Spain. Establishment which adapts to climate conditions and which integrally respects the wooded area.
It minimizes its impact on the earth and on the landscape; the construction detaches itself from the ground and only is supported at four points. The original slope is maintained, the natural green cover of the ground passes below the house without any interference.
Mixed structure of steel and wood, collapsible and recyclable. Reversibility of the architecture.
The enclosure is determined by means of a combination of two types of wood (North Pine and Douglas Pine), producing two distinct widths. The random combination of elements integrates the dwelling into the landscape like bark on a new tree. The building is mixed with its natural surroundings. No necessity of external thermal contribution.
Orientation, geometry, and folds adapt to climate and solar orientations.
We are betting for a space of double-height, glassed in its totality and positioned facing south. In place of a system of adjustable timber slats for solar protection, we have decided to put a collection of ventilation hollows/holes set in distinct positions and combinations that acts as a hygrothermic regulator, and that more adequately responds to the microclimate of the region.
Major surface façades are almost completely covered, avoiding thermal losses.
Ventilation windows in all orientations. Crossed ventilation of all spaces.
The north façade is protected by means of an anterior space and wind-blocking lattice window.
The space of double-height is not formulated with spatial or composite ends; it is a bioclimatic device fundamental for the regulation of the thermological functioning of the house. It acts as regulating focus of temperature.
Compact space, optimization of spatial formation.
Functional flexibility, housing is transformable and seasonably changeable (the ground floor integrates distinct uses within a unique space that can be configured in different ways; the floor above can be transformed from one bedroom into two or three).
