Gaï-Kodzor Winery in Krasnodar Krai brings together industrial production and public space within one building. Located five kilometers from the Black Sea coast, in an open степpe landscape marked by heat, wind, and dry terrain, the project responds directly to its setting.
Rather than treating the site as a backdrop, the architects used the form of the building to emphasize the most expressive points of the relief and to create a vantage point over the surrounding landscape.
The winery stretches horizontally, echoing the lines of the nearby hills and orienting itself toward the sun, which defines the character of the place for most of the year. Sunlight plays an important role in the project both technically and spatially. The building is equipped with solar panels, which contribute to its energy use, while the changing movement of light and shadow across the structure forms an essential part of the visitor experience.
The public route through the winery is designed as a sequence of views and transitions. Visitors come to taste the wine and learn about its production, including views into the working areas from a glazed balcony that preserves the required temperature, humidity, and cleanliness of the production spaces. Alongside this functional program, the architecture introduces a more atmospheric layer: a rooftop promenade overlooking the sea, a small courtyard garden reached by an open stair, shaded passages under the pergola, and carefully framed views of the hilly landscape.
These elements give the winery a role beyond production. It becomes a cultural destination where architecture, landscape, and the process of winemaking are experienced together. The project is shaped by topography, climate, and the idea that a visit to a winery can unfold as a spatial and visual journey.
