Gdansk Shipyard Competition Poland winning design by Maciej Szylke:
Gdansk Shipyard Competition
“The theme of the competition was land-use on the Gdansk Shipyard, where 20 years ago, Solidarity ‘won against communism’.
Today it is the land on which a modern city district is starting to grow. In the center of the district will be about 40 meters wide promenade, called Road to Freedom, which connects Solidarity Square with a pier.
The City of Gdansk and Gdansk University of Technology Faculty of Architecture held a contest for student ideas for the shape and the look of this promenade. Many of the proposals took into account of this land’s history and shipyard, industrial nature but there are also concepts entirely unexpected.”

The plot, with which the client came to our studio, is located on the outskirts of the city of Poznan. Until recently, it was a post-industrial district, poorly urbanized and with low land value.
