Melnikov House
Moscow’s Melnikov House is a superlative example of Soviet avantgarde architecture and a masterpiece of structural ingenuity. Built as two intersecting cylinders, the house’s unconventional style reflects the boundary-pushing vision of architect Konstantin Melnikov, who designed the house as his studio and family residence.

The master plan is organized to shape public space with maximum sunlight exposure. The buildings wrap around to create large, public garden and playground spaces as a reference to the site’s former use as a paratrooper air field.

New Tretyakov Gallery
The New Tretyakov houses an extensive and important collection of Russian art, including seminal work from Malevich, Kandinsky, Chagall, and Soviet artists such as Aleksandr Deyneka and Vera Mukhina. It is the largest museum building in Russia, marked by a number of improvisations and additions that have been added over time, fragmenting the vast hallways and grand exhibition spaces into clusters of smaller rooms.
