Terekhovo Station in Moscow
Buromoscow has developed a design for, Terekhovo Station, one of the new stations on the Big circle line of the Moscow metro.
BCL is a core project for the metro network development of the Russian capital city. Extended for 71 kilometers and 31 stations, this is the longest circle line in the world.
It will unload radial metro lines, save passengers up to 30 minutes on each trip, and bring this type of transport to remote areas of Moscow.
Each station has its own architectural appearance. The design of seven stations was determined by the international open calls. We became the winners of one of them in 2016 with the Terekhovo station project. The construction of the station began in the same year.
In September 2021, a technical start-up took place, and on December 7th an entire section of the BCL of 10 stations, including Terekhovo, was opened to passengers. The simultaneous opening of such many stations was the first in the contemporary history of the Moscow metro.
The Moscow metro is a special public space, a meeting point, a place for romantic appointments, which is not typical for a metro in other cities. So we paid special attention to the design of the new station.
Usually, we try to work with context, consider the environment, and look for elements that can be reflected in the architectural appearance of a particular building. In the case of the Terekhovo station, we did not have such a clue, since the village Terekhovo was demolished.
The architecture and design of the station are reminiscent of the historic interiors of the Moscow metro. The station has many classic details: flutes, caissons, colonnades in a modern minimalist interpretation. On the columns of the station are printed abstract silhouettes of people, ordinary citizens, our contemporaries, like the heroes of the metro of the past: workers, farmers and scientists.
It was important to create a space full of air and lightness and it became possible using the fiberglass concrete. It gives a visual sense of the integrity and plasticity of the interior. Its tone reflects and diffuses light, expanding the space. All chandeliers have been specially designed by our bureau. Tiers of circles are made of metal and LED matt lens.
The entrance pavilions are designed as high portals, visible from afar thanks to their 16-meter arch. The reflected light of the well-known bright red letter “M” illuminates the portal, marking the entrance to the brave new world of the Moscow Metro’s Big Circle Line.
