Famous Milanese Architecture Offices

Milan has long been a center of modern and contemporary architecture, producing and hosting some of Italy’s most influential architects. Here are several well-known modern Milan-based (or Milan-connected) architects and practices:

One of the most prominent figures is Stefano Boeri, best known for the Bosco Verticale, a pair of residential towers covered in vegetation that have become global icons of sustainable urban design. His work often explores ecology, urbanism, and the relationship between architecture and nature.

Another major name is Antonio Citterio, whose practice spans architecture, interiors, and product design. He has designed numerous luxury residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, often with a refined, minimalist aesthetic and strong attention to materials.

Piero Lissoni is also central to Milan’s contemporary scene. Known for his elegant minimalism, he works across architecture, interiors, and furniture design, often blending clean lines with warm materials.

The practice Park Associati, led by Filippo Pagliani and Michele Rossi, is known for innovative office buildings and urban regeneration projects in Milan, often focusing on sustainability and new workplace environments.

Arassociati, founded by Aldo Rossi’s collaborator Aldo Rossi (note: correction—Arassociati is led by others including Aldo Rossi’s circle), has contributed to urban and residential projects, particularly in Milan’s redevelopment areas.

A key historical-modern influence is Aldo Rossi, whose work and theories on the city have deeply shaped Milanese architecture. His projects, such as the San Cataldo Cemetery, influenced generations of architects working in Milan today.

Gio Ponti, although earlier, remains hugely influential in Milan. His work, including the Pirelli Tower, helped define modern Italian architecture and continues to inspire contemporary practices.

More recent and experimental voices include Onsitestudio, known for landscape-driven and infrastructural projects, and Studio Marco Piva, which works globally on hospitality and large-scale developments.
