Paddock-9: project scope: designing a building to keep and exhibit a private luxury sports car collection. Including entertainment area, office space and a meeting room.
Program:
Ground floor: reception/waiting, area for 16 cars (possibility to store one car above the other), manager area, bathroom.
Upper floor: entertainment area with living room, dining room and kitchen, meeting room, director’s office, bathrooms, facilities rooms, service and support areas.
Requirements: to create a space to keep and exhibit a collection of private luxury cars; congruent with the avant-garde and sophisticated design of the cars. Displayed in such a way that they are the icons of the space.
The lot is located within an industrial park, surrounded by a state forest, in zapopan jalisco; the glass façade with its exposed steel structure offers very pleasant views of the forest.
Functionality: the reception and waiting area are located immediately at the pedestrian entrance, at the other end is the vehicular entrance that has a rotating circular platform to give easy access to vehicles, the rest of the ground floor is for exhibition of cars.
In the center of the triangular plot there is a spiral staircase, made of ¾” thick steel plate; its circular shape and its mclaren orange color make it the most important sculptural element of the space, integrating both floors. Its oak wood footprints lead to the upper floor, leading to a perimeter hallway, which floats above the double height as it is suspended with steel tensioners of the upper structure. Its glass railing allows visual integration between the two levels.
Kitchen, dining room and living room are a single integrated and fluid space with beautiful views of the forest, the meeting room for 12 people and the main office are also integrated into the entire space, with its glass walls that at the same time give the necessary privacy. The spaces on the upper floor are the result of a careful construction intervention, with high quality materials such as marble, granite, wooden floors, wallpapers, precious woods and walnut laminates, which contrast with the industrial finishes on the ground floor.
You can appreciate unique decorative elements with automotive themes, such as the replica of the f1 car. In general, an interior atmosphere rich in shapes and colors was achieved, consistent with the design quality of the exhibited cars.
The lighting project addresses all spaces and pays special attention to the cars, the steel structure, the spiral staircase, the main entrance and the art collection.
Facade: its play of closed volumes and its variety of textures responds to the privacy required for this type of project and to the orientation of the façade towards the east, since it has strong exposure to the sun.
