In this project, the architects aimed to emphasize the dynamism of the natural motion of the desert by exploring and highlighting the topography created by its winds, the elements that make it a gift to the senses, its natural form of creating paths and spaces that appear and disappear as in a landscape of surprises, and we did this by keeping true to its nature and cycles.

The Hacienda NIOP project consist of a series of subtle interventions ranged from the generality of reordering the zoning of their uses, to the particularity of solving the most intricate detail of how the contemporary merges with pre-existing in order to properly achieve a whole new use. The land in the middle of a coastline dotted with “All Inclusives,” would have to be transformed into a ‘box’ that contained its own sea. It was a pure, minimal landscape. Dreamlike scenery collided on either side with what people consider as ‘architecture’. I wanted to draw my own version, apart from the rest.

This Mexican architecture office finishes ahead of three US architectural firms and one Mexican architects studio to win an invitational competition to design this major property for the Blue Diamond Group. This Mexican hotel building will involve an estimated investment of US$190 million, a constructed area of 130,000 m2, and more than 1,250 rooms in ten towers with a maximum of four stories each. Building work will begin at the end of this year, and is expected to take 13 months.
