The clients’ aspiration for this project was luxury living, large spaces for entertaining, additional space to accommodate a growing family, professional office and a house that suited their fast-paced lifestyle.

The generous budget allowed the design to be expressed with bespoke finishes which afforded an opportunity to curate a masterfully designed architectural home reflective of a luxury residence.

Every element of this residence has been meticulously crafted to embody refined luxury and effortless functionality. Marble-clad walls and bespoke ceiling finishes are paired with polished concrete and rich American oak, creating a palette of timeless sophistication.

A rotating breakfast bar — designed as both a sculptural statement and a practical feature — showcases the home’s innovative spirit.

The interiors have been designed with versatility in mind, with spaces that seamlessly adapt to multiple functions. A large cavity slider transforms the office into an extension of the grand foyer, offering a free-flowing space ideal for hosting clients in style.

The open-plan living area dissolves boundaries between indoors and out, as concealed sliding doors invite the alfresco terrace into the heart of the home. Every detail has been considered, ensuring the residence is as elegant in daily life as it is effortless when entertaining.

What inspired the architectural design of the Young Residence, and how does it reflect the local culture and environment of Melbourne?
The design responds to the locality by bringing a high-end material palette, complemented by elegant manipulation of forms to make an architectural statement in a high-value area. The functional requirements of the home needed to cater for a fast-paced lifestyle with a flexibility for entertaining and needed to remain adaptable for both business and a growing family.

In your opinion, how does the Young Residence set a precedent for future luxury residential projects in Melbourne? What trends do you foresee in the architectural landscape of the area?
Full of opportunity, Melbourne is able to capitalise on its reputation for great design, which particular clients are able to recognise. Young Residence is an example of the benefits of investing in an architecturally designed home and encourages others to embark on their own architectural journey.
