Simpson Haugh & Partners’ proposals for the redevelopment of a key part of Manchester’s St John’s regeneration area have been given the go-ahead by councillors, reports Building Design.
A 52-storey tower housing 287 apartments above a 15-storey hotel is the centrepiece for the scheme, which covers the former Granada Studios site where soap opera Coronation Street was filmed until production moved to ITV’s new MediaCityUK studios.
Influenced by early tower buildings, St. John’s Place is designed as an elegant, classic tower. Its form and shape are simple; its look, timeless; and its materials, traditional.
Its interiors, a series of natural materials, will all be classic traditional fine building materials. We are making homes, we are creating a place to live for the future, but we are doing it a traditional way, in a way that people will value and see the quality and effort that’s gone into making their new home. We want these homes in the Sky to be multi-generational, we want this home to be passed on to generations, it’s something you can collect and keep, as it’s something you will invest in out of choice such is the quality of every part of it.
Sitting above ten floors of hotel space are several floors of amenity – cafés, restaurants, health and wellbeing facilities, meeting areas, as well as rooms and spaces, exclusively for St. John’s Place residents. Below sits the garden, beautiful green space for an intimate, quiet retreat for reflection and contemplation. These are the important areas, they make the difference to your lifestyle, as will the dedicated concierge service we will supply, we will even look after your dog while you go to work.
