Tree House, Haryana, North India
Before the invention of language or tools, before architecture was even a word, nature offered the first sanctuaries to life—caves and trees. These primal shelters served not only as protection from the elements but as spaces that nurtured life itself. Drawing deeply from these ancient origins, this home is conceived as the “TREE HOUSE” — a design philosophy that merges the rooted strength of caves with the organic grace of trees, reimagined for a modern urban setting.
Inspired by the Tree
Throughout history, trees have been revered not just for their ecological role, but as spiritual and intellectual muses. From Buddha attaining enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree to Newton’s applefall moment, trees have long been central to human insight and growth. This home takes cues from the symbolic and literal power of trees — sheltering, inspiring, and enduring.
The golden façade features a detailed lattiice inspired by the interwoven branches of a tree canopy.
This element doesn’t just make a visual statement; it becomes a functional skin that filters the intense southern sunlight, casting dappled light into the interiors while enhancing airflow and thermal comfort. The interplay of light and shadow across the day evokes the feeling of being nestled under forest shade — a quiet, calming experience amid the city.
From the choice of raw materials to the warmth of wooden textures and organic finishes, every inch of the house reflects a reverence for nature. The idea is to create a home that doesn’t just sit on the land, but belongs to it.
The Jewel Staircase
At the heart of the home lies a sculptural staircase — a bespoke creaon shaped like the Indian rupee symbol. This design not only honours the client’s identy as a builder but subtly ties economic symbolism with artistic expression. The staircase steps resemble gemstones embedded in a necklace, a nod to the hidden treasures of ancient caves.
Crafted with wooden balustrades that wrap like ribbons along the spine of the stairs, the structure becomes a central art piece, spiralling through a triple-height atrium. As sunlight moves across the day, the staircase transforms in character — glimmering like a jewel, anchoring the home with both weight and wonder.
The New Hearth
Historically, the hearth was the soul of every home—a place of gathering, nourishment, and shared warmth. In this project, that concept is revived and reinterpreted. The second-floor hall features a modern “fire ceiling,” an ambient lighting installaon that bathes the space in a soft, glowing warmth.
This area connects to the outdoor terrace, forming a perfect zone for social gatherings, quiet conversations, or family bonding under the stars. It evokes the communal essence of a hearth while aligning with contemporary lifestyles.
Tradition Meets Innovation
Rooted in Vastu Shastra, the planning of the Dendro-Cave Residence ensures optimal energy flow, comfort, and connectivity. The layout aligns natural forces with spatial logic, creating a dwelling that is as emotionally uplifting as it is environmentally responsible.
By synthesizing the ancient power of caves with the nurturing spirit of trees, this home transcends the idea of shelter. It becomes a philosophical statement — one that celebrates balance between man and nature, past and future, function and poetry.
This is not just a house. It is an invitaon to live in harmony with the earth, guided by the wisdom of what came before us.
