Haus Bavaria
House in Bavaria
Above the ancient Roman walls of the city of Regensburg, in Bavaria (Germany), the project foresees the total demolition and reconstruction of an edifice which is part of a continuous “quint” dating back to the Middle Ages, overlooking the park on the outskirts of the city (Stadtpark) on the external side and facing the street on the internal side. The gutted building will be totally re-designed and converted into a private home for two people.
Due to the possible presence of archeological roman walls the internal spaces have been organized in three parallel zones on all the floors.
The first zone on the left contains all the bathrooms, amenities, and plants, organized in a column on all floors, with the boiler and control panels in the basement, wardrobe and bathroom on the ground floor, the kitchen on the first floor, master bathrooms on the second and third floors and a swimming-pool on the fourth floor which closes the “service tower”.
The central zone contains the stairways and a glass elevator which link one floor to another.
The third zone contains all the living spaces without any structure between the two facades. A large pass-through living-room and dining-room on the first floor above the garage faces the street and overlooks the park.
Above the living-room a large completely unsupported volume suspended between the two external facades lined with leather panels contains two bedrooms on the second and third floors, and in the uppermost part directly under the pitch of the roof there is a glass studio-cum-solarium next the pool and under two large dormer-windows, one facing the street, the other overlooking the park.
White and brown marbles from Carrara, white leather from Tuscany, and teak wood are the main finishing materials used all over the house.
