The exterior of the new addition pairs rubble and ashlar stone, with the former set proud of the mortar to cast shifting shadows, and the latter cut into crisp, origami-like facets. From there, stone steps descend into a living space that seamlessly connects old and new, extending outward to a terrace and the landscape beyond.

Instead the architect and the client successfully argued for series of dry stone walls and terraces in which the house is buried under grass roofs.
